My profile pic pretty much reflects the view out of my window today. Except those pesky trees have grown leaves now. That's good I hear you say. A sign of summer. Nope, they completely block off my view out of the window, block off a lot of light and sit there in the rain most days looking green and miserable - I hate trees, they belong in forests not people's back gardens. Difficult to believe that I took this photo on Monday just gone when we went for a long leisurely cycle up the canal. Unfortunately that isn't my back garden.
Today it's 8 degrees (feels like 6 according to AccuWeather). Must have picked the worst year in the whole of my life to stop smoking. Sunshine about once a month, freezing temperatures, never ending clouds and always a cold wind blowing. How's a girl supposed to enjoy bike riding in those conditions. Had to put the heating on at work yesterday, they tried turning it off but we were just too cold.
Still, I beat the rain this morning. I woke up, leapt from my bed at 8.30. Got ready and after a bit of debating as to whether I might get wet, I went off on my bike. Only 5 miles and half an hours cycling but I climbed 213ft, burned 148 calories, did an average speed of 11.6mph and won a Queen of the Mountain badge, beating 4 other riders on Strava. Got home just in time before the rains set in and collapsed on the sofa feeling very sickly and shaky - am sure that darn thyroid is playing up. Had my blood test done on Tuesday, cycled to the hospital and back, and will get results on Monday. Then I went to hospital again that evening for a tour of the new birthing unit with my daughter. OMG, there is no bed!! Didn't even like to ask where exactly you were supposed to give birth without a bed, glad it's not me. My daughter however wants one of those birthing pool things, just hope they can find the plug, as apparently when her friend asked for the birthing pool they had lost the plug and offered her a bath instead!! Active births? haha give me a bed any day.
haha, that's the new hospital nursery to go with the birthing unit. Lets not bother investing in cots, just stick em in a bucket of water til mum's ready to go. lol.
That's the problem with where we live - at the top of a hill. Whenever I go out on my bike, no matter which way I go, I have to come back up a big hill to get home
Well done Sinfree,
I've never kept outa my bed in my life - and I envy people who can get out of bed and hit the day running... or cycling in your case! I too live up a vey steep hill, and have trouble walking up, never mind cycling! I'm sure you must have burned up far more calories than 148? The pack of Crisps I've just guzzled is 205! Whoops, makes me think I'll have to get back to that Aerobics class tomorrow.
Well done you - you haven't got the time or the Puff to smoke anymore!

haha, believe me Gilly its not often I leap from my bed. I did ponder for a moment whether to stay there and read my book instead but as it wasn't at that point raining but rain was forecast for the day I thought oh well being as I had to get up to let the dogs out and make a drink I suppose it would be a shame to waste the window of opportunity so to speak. My books quite boring anyway
They are pretty annoying calories aren't they? Can get through hundreds of the things eating next to nothing but try burning them off - that's a whole different kind of maths. Must admit I rarely eat crisps for that very reason, you look in a bag of crisps and think - what? is that it? Hey you forgot to finish filling up the bag.
ooooohhh cuddly, cuddly, soooo cute. How can a mum turn her back on such bunches of cuddliness.
Talking of those big ugly trees across the road from me, a crow must have a nest up there and some skanky magpie keeps trying to raid the nest. Hate this time of year, there's always wars going on with the birds and you can always guarantee there's a magpie behind it. It's usually the poor old blackbirds who suffer the most. You often hear a blackbird going on and on because either a magpie or a sparrowhawk has stole one of their babies, its heartbreaking to hear them.
Y'know I've done that before now, running around in the garden trying to scare the predators away, just call me scarecrow!
A new profile pic for me.
there you go
haha, night Mad, don't be getting depressed watching that news.
Hiya Sin - yeah, brill new profile pic. Nicely found by Mad.
My friend got fed up with the pigeons so her hubby went up the market and bought an air rifle - she loves trying to frighten them - they ain't daft though, they usually hear her opening the door and fly off!
Helooo Andi, may struggle a bit on my bike with my new long frock, will have to get a new bike. A posh Pashley with a skirt guard theoldbicycleshowroom.co.uk...
That's a bit extreme, I'll have to get one for the magpies, that'll teach 'em
navy blue, yes we did too with your vest tucked in

Bit expensive though at £645. OK if you live somewhere flat, but around here I'd need those flipping spinning classes to work up some muscle to get the thing up the hills round here
These maths equations are a nightmare aren't they? I now have to really knuckle down to it cos I'm fed up with the weight. I am now the heaviest I have been in my whole life and am getting so fed up with not being able to wear anything other than my jeans on my bottom half.
I've got to really step up the exercise and have started my food diary again from today. Went to the gym this morning and did a 45 min spin class after. Still had a Twirl this evening but have been good today otherwise on the mouth front.
aww, its not easy is it. How was your spin class? I quite fancy trying that. My daughter used to do spinning but she used to come home with her clothes absolutely drenched and I always thought, God I'd probably die doing that. My knees have started playing up too, especially after cycling up hills so am wondering if spinning would make them worse. What about trying Weightwatchers? It is expensive but I lost over 3 stones in about 10 months in 2010. I signed up again in February but it was nothing like it used to be, I didn't think much of the pro points thing and the food diary didn't seem to be as good as I remembered it from last time.
I've only put about 6lb on since I stopped smoking and I do eat far too much but its so hard to diet when you don't smoke because when I did diet, if I fancied something to eat I would have a cig instead and obviously we can't do that now
I've never dieted in my life and I wouldn't want to waste my money paying them. I eat quite sensibly with not much rubbish but am trying to cut all the rubbish (whoops - Twirl! ). In February I knuckled under and started losing a bit after 4 weeks but had to go away again so now I'm home for the summer so I can finally get into it. I found that if I write everything down that I eat it focuses the mind. If I cheat, I'm only cheating myself.
Spinning's really good - you can build it up over the weeks and I don't think it should hurt your knees - you won't know unless you try.
What on earth is Spinning"?! Sounds very curious - what do you have to do, spin round and round? If so, don'tcha get giddy and dizzy?

It's basically indoor cycling on an exercise bike. It's done as a class, it's very vigorous cycling usually done to music and an instructor who either make or breaks a class, depending on their personality, who shouts out stuff to encourage faster cycling.
Thanks Sinfree, I've never heard of that, but it sounds a real "killer" routine! What will they think of next... 500 cals is a lot to burn off in one session.
