Giving up Ecigs.

On the 14th. Nov. 2012 I switched from tobacco to Ecigs. Although I've smoked pretty heavily since 1976 I had no problem at all making the switch. I started off with the 26mg nicotine content and within a fortnight was on the 6mg version. I tried the zero nicotine, but they tasted foul!

Although Ecigs are a vast improvement over the 'real thing' (no scummy tongue is most definitely the best!), it's quite clear that I was addicted to them.

Four days ago I decided to stop using the ecig.

This has been a hard four days! Cravings exactly similar to those I had on the occasions I tried to go cold-turkey in the past. I intend to persevere, substituting one addiction for another doesn't seem too sensible. Here's to a smoke, and vape, free life!

Hi ya Trag :) a massive welcome to this lovely quit smoking site :) and thats great that you havnt smoked since 14th November last year, your doing just ace you are :) :)

If you dont mind me asking Trag, have you noticed any health benefits since you quit in November ??

If it's cravings your getting, then one of Emjay's breathing techniques may help you, like this one -

To help a craving pass - Breathing Exercise (1)

Report

Cravings lead to irritation and sometimes panic, causing the quitter’s mind to speed up. When this occurs, concentrating becomes hard. Using a deep breathing exercise is an effective way of calming yourself down.

This exercise can be done anywhere from sitting down in a chair to waiting for a bus. Follow the simple stages described below;

With your mouth closed and shoulders relaxed, inhale deeply and slowly to the count of eight.

As you breathe in, push your stomach out.

Hold your breath for the count of four.

Breathe out slowly to the count of eight.

Repeat the cycle five times

DO NOT OVER DO IT – STOP IF YOU FEEL DIZZY

Well done Trag on quitting, sorry to hear your having probs giving up the e-cig, it,s the old Nicotine thats causing the withdrawals I surpose. I quit 10 months ago and use an e-cig which I can honestly say I enjoy now and again, as for giving it up, I havent thought about it yet. I know some people do become addicted to them but I can go all day without using mine and never take it out with me which is somethink I could never do with ciggys, they came everywhere I went. E-Cigs for me are not as addictive as ciggys so I dont worry to much about using one at the moment.I probably will get fed up with it at some time, and I dont use it as much as I use to. Why dont you try the Fruit flavours or Organics which dont have Nicotine they might help you.Good luck anyway, hope you find it easy.

Welcome Trag and well done so far. I started on the ecig and found it good too but I went to my local non smoking support group and I am now using an inhaler and I have not used it as much as the ecig.. My quit date was 1 January 2013 and so far so good,, Keep strong and stay on here as people on here gave me good advice and good encouragement to keep going.. :) :) :) :)

Thanks! Am now on day five without using my ecig, I'm starting to wonder why I'm giving up any way, the only difference I notice is a two inch increase in my waist size, which is pretty horrific as I've been a 30" waist for the last 25 years!

Just joking, I love the fresh mouth since I stopped fags last Nov. Hopefully I can get through this difficult nicotine withdrawal period. I seem to have a crisis every night between 8pm and 9pm! So far so good!

Best wishes to everyone on this difficult journey.

Hey Jane,

Too right! If I can do 5 days with no nicotine whatsoever why not the rest of my life? Here's to years of Freshbreath ahead :)

I'm on day 323 of not smoking and only day 3 of no nicotine !

new motivation - not to spend £25 per week on nicotine replacement - £100 per month you know

:-)

in reply toFreshbreath

Well done Freshbreath, keep up the good work. Spending £25 per week on E-Cigs is a lot of money but still better than ciggys, you must have been using your e-cig quite a lot, I spend no more than £15 per month on mine so thats a massive savings. I havent really thought of the savings, more the health benefits. My outlook on life is you pay for somethink you enjoy, whatever it is, I really really enjoyed smoking for 40+ years and then started not to, that was the time for me to stop.I was smoking for smoking sake and nothink else. Enjoy your extra £100 per month, buy yourself somethink nice, you deserve it :)

Hi madimad

I was using mini lozenges and probably over doing it! Never tried the ecig. Anyway day 4 of no nicotine no real withdrawal symptoms .... But strangely the days seem longer. Not sure if this is because I'm not concentrating on things fully!

It's funny how I have come back to the site for some support though isn't it!

Sorry Jane got confused ( Its my age :) ) thought you were using e-cigs. I didnt realize NRT cost so much. Wouldn,t you think they,d give it for free, I surpose thats asking to much. Well done, 4 days without anythink is really good, just make sure you didn,t stop the NRT to soon, if you start feeling really edgy for a smoke mybe just havin a few lozengers a day will keep the urges away so you dont start smoking again. Good luck anyway.

Yes, I was spending £66 a month on cartridges.

I think this first week is the worst, good luck. Even though it's only 5 days no nicotine for me each one is a real lift. I don't want to start counting all over again!

Hi Trag, well done you, I hope you succeed, you will save a lot of money by stopping and can treat yourself to somethink nice. E-Cigs are really helpful and not as addictive as ciggys for most people but you must have been using it a lot to spend that amount of money on cartridges, I enjoy using mine occasionally but can go all day without bothering. What I like about them is you can use it without the nicotine, and then wean yourself of easier. We are all different and what works for some doesnt for others. Sounds like you were over using it and that is not a good idea. Good luck anyway, you,ll get there.

That sounds like a damned-sight less than what you would have spent on fags though. :)

I'm sure you can both wean yourselves off the ecigs - good luck! :)
