Is hysterectomy my only option?

I was told 12 months ago that I have abcess near ovary and uterus, possibly due to previous infected copper coil. Have had repeated episodes of pelvic pain, hospitalisation, antibiotic treatment. Doctor has now mentioned hysterectomy. I'm waiting for a recent CT scan. Doctor has not mentioned drainage or any other options . Please can someone advise? Not sure what to do or who to speak to :-(

I've had a hysterectomy 2 years ago and was great, feel better for it. Not had your problems but I would say be advised by medics. Sometimes better out than in 😊Good luck

I had a hysterectomy about a year ago but mine was for prolapsed bladder and cervix. For me, the hysterectomy was very easy. Very little pain, just discomfort for a couple of weeks. Your hysterectomy, may entail some complications that were not relevant in my case. So, the hysterectomy itself was not a big issue for me. However, after my hysterectomy, I learned that a person is more prone to prolapse after having this type of surgery. Which is exactly what happened to me. Weigh your options. Once you know what direction your doctor presents as a solution, come back to this site and see if anyone has had a similar experience, just as you have done now. The most important thing you can do for yourself is ask questions. Write your questions down as you think of them, otherwise (if you are anything like me) you will forget your questions while concentrating on what the doctor is telling you. Take notes when the doctor is giving you the diagnosis. I have a notebook dedicated to medical notes and questions. It has saved me a lot of stress trying to remember all the information I have received. I'm sorry if I sound preachy I wanted to share what has been helpful to me

Thank you, that's really useful advice, so glad I found this website :) When I went to last gynae appointment I asked the questions I'd written down and felt so much better than the previous appointment where I clammed up even though I had notebook with me, something about the doctor made me freeze !

This last time round was much better thankfully.

Sorry to hear you had complications after the surgery, hope they get resolved , sending you best wishes
