I have been told I have uterine and bladder prolaspe with anterior and postier repair. I have had a shelf pessary but had it in and out several times as it is uncomfortable and makes me sore. Have been using a Femicushion which is ok but am very unsure about surgery, a hysterectomy. Any advice would be welcome. Can I just live with it. What other options to surgery do I have.

It depends on whether it stops you doing what you want to do really. I tried pessaries but no good, so as I was so uncomfortable I went for hysterectomy and was best decision for me. I had it done last April. I didnt even realise that I had a problem with my bladder until afterwards. I now go all night without getting up for a wee! I'm not always looking for toilets when I'm out and about as I can now control my bladder like when I was in my 30s. Not everyone is si lucky though.

I am 72 and fit and healthy but worried about the recovery from a hysterectomy. How long did it take to get to something like normal.

I'm 70 and it took 3 months to get back to normal although they do tell you if you lift anything heavy or strain your bowels you can prolapse again. I have avoided both and am fine. You must do the exercises though

Hi there I'm sorry its distressing isn't it...but in my experience if other things aren't helping ..consider surgery honestly I hadca posteier and interior repair and I'm.like a new woman..it took 3 months to get over so don't expect to be back normal within weeks like I did ..I went private but I'm.sure nhs is just the same I just didn't want to wait...I managed mine for 10 yrs with a kegal 8 and hrt and vitimins but then I had to come off hrt and my prolapse suffered badly ..so I bit the bullet and went for it...my consultant said he didn't want to take my uterus out if not needed as it supports your other organs ..so I would consider it...I'm.63 what age are u...but I feel.if it gives u better quality of life no matter what age its got to be a plus....Good luck x

I'm 62 and going for anterior and posterior repair soon. Pre op on 29th April. I've declined pessaries as I want it all over and done with. Yes 3 months of my life on hold but it will be spent (hopefully) in the sunshine outside. It's my bladder and bowel especially that has dropped ...my bowel is stage 3 bladder stage 2. Not my womb. So hysterectomy not discussed at this time. I think it's also the way to go to get some quality of life at our age. 😃

Good for you good luck the pain after is minimal or was for me my overall main issue was emptying my bladder as I wasn't so has to come out with catheter in...so make sure u drink plenty whilst u are In hospital...you will be a new woman honest best thing I did..there will be alot of internal stitches I was shocked at how many that's why it takes 3 months plus to recover.. lots of tlc and rest and keep ur bowels open ...let me know how u get on...my inbox is always open ...jeamette x

Thank you for your support. My biggest worry after the op is constipation as I do have issues with it now.

Yes I had too I'm sure that made my prolaose worse so I now take lacido each day and 2 per day if needed so keep your eye on that if u do u be fine..Good luck x

Thank you. Had my pessary out but have to go back in four weeks to see if I really want the surgery.

Yes, you can just live with it. I had a hysterectomy do to adenomyosis, which is very painful. I have prolapse that I am living with, a bit uncomfortable at times, but I was injured by transvaginal mesh pretty severely. Do not get a mesh sling - that is what injured me. Doctors tell you they are fine. I know a lot of women injured by slings. Also they are made out of polypropylene, a petroleum product. Not good for people and have caused immune disorders. They can do a sling using your own skin - called an autologous sling. This requires time and skill, a lot of doctors don't want to do it. FYI
