Embarrassing facial hair after hysterectomy

PenelopeClearwater profile image

I had my full hysterectomy three years ago, age 33 and since then have had really embarrassing facial hair under my chin. I wax it off, but I’d rather just not have it 😞 I can only take tibolone HRT, due to my age… has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any tips? It just makes me feel so ugly and really self conscious.

Get a Phillips IPL laser hair remover. They are pricy but they are brilliant. It comes with adapter to do facial hair x

Awesome, thank you - I’ll have a look x

Hi, you were very young to have a full hysterectomy and I wish you well. I had a hysterectomy at age of 36 but have kept my ovaries. I am now 70 years old. I was put on oestrogen patches only for about 20 years. Then I stopped using the patches for about 15 years. Recently I was put on vagifem pessary for dryness. If you read about the tibolone it can cause hair growth. Can you not have a word with your GP.

Hello, thank you for replying. Yes I was very young - but the endometriosis was just unmanageable, so it was the best choice for me 😊

I had read that about tibolone and spoke to my GP, but they said due to my age, I have to stick with it for a while. x

Understand. I wish you well xx

Hi Penelope I hear you!! I had my total hysterectomy at aged 21. It was devastating to say the least. But unfortunately it was necessary. My general health improved but not my mental health. I’ve been on HRT ever since. I wish you all the best. I am now aged 64. Take care. X

Wow - that is so young! My mental health has ups and downs - I’m definitely in a down and my current symptoms don’t help that…

Thank you for your kind words - I really appreciate the sense of community here. Take care x
