Alternatives to ring pessary

My dr tried 3 different sizes of ring pessary for anterior prolapse but they all sat too far down, there was too much pressure pushing them down.. But not out.She said might need a shelf one and referred to NHS hospital gynae pessary clinic. Wait time about 12 months!!!

I am struggling with my mental health as whole life has changed. I am older but was always quite active... Not any more.

Does anyone recommend anything I could do while I wait for appointment please I am in the UK.

Hi. Yes i use jade and pearl pink pessary sponge. Just google it for places where they sell it. I always cut mine in half and insert. Game changer for me. Feel free to ask questions...

Hi, sorry to hear of the problems you are dealing with. I can empathise as have had no success with ring pessaries either. I decided to invest in a kegel 8 pelvic toner and I am definitely noticing an improvement in my symptoms. I know these are not for everyone but you can call the advice line and explain your situation and they can give you the information you need to decide if appropriate for you. I also wear the compression shorts you can buy from their website and while expensive they have really improved my quality of life. I take collagen and use oestrogen pessaries twice weekly and think the combination has all helped. I also do a functional Pilates class so it's definitely a multi layered approach! If you are interested in exercise to try to combat things the buff muff method is worth exploring. I looked into it and think it would be really beneficial but am going to complete my toner programme first and see how I get on. Sorry for the information overload but hope it's helpful. Good luck

Thank you for all the information. I'm seeing thr private physio soon and she is going to show me the kegal8 toner... So might contact them and maybe invest in one if the session goes OK. I've also contacted a pilates teacher who caters for people with prolapse, but I had hoped to have had a suitable pessary before joining classes. That seems unlikely to happen any time a soon!GP prescribed oestrogen cream but hadn't thought of taking collagen.... Is it tablet form?

I was so disappointed when the ring pessaries didn't work.... It all seemed like it was downhill and no good news. :( but your suggestions have now given me some hope, thank you and good luck with your regime.

Aww, I know how depressing it can all be. I felt the same when the ring pessaries I tried didn't work. It was so disappointing. I take collagen powder, it's from wellguard and honestly find it has helped. I started taking it to prevent hair loss when I started using the topical pv oestrogen but it has helped for joint pain and other benefits as well. Wishing you all the best, don't lose hope.

I would also try natural sponge pessaries. They aren't very expensive and you won't do any harm. They were extremely helpful to me with a womb prolapse, but so were the regular exercises with the NHS app Squeezy. I have been using it daily for two years now to do regular pelvic floor exercises and although it took several months for them to make a noticeable difference, in the end they certainly have.

Thanks.. I was thinking about them as someone else said to try... I will order now

I have been using the squeeze app too but another fb group has said not to do them as can do more harm... And that you have to lengthen the pelvic floor first.... Poss through pf yoga.... It's all so confusing!

Hell's bells! The NHS app has certainly helped me. And so did the sponges. Lengthening the pelvic floor sounds really weird. But I guess in the end, it's whatever actually helps.

A decent private women's health physio (you say you are seeing one) should be able to examine you and help find which pessary suits you. I have bladder and bowel prolapse. We tried 2 sizes of ring pessaries but they fell out. She had a large selection of different types of pessary that she could try on me - you would have to pay for each trial I imagine. I did a lot of reading and, together with my physio, we found that a cube pessary works best for a bowel prolapse. She taught me to take it out and wash it with hot water every night and replace it every morning. It will last a year. It cost about £35 plus the cost of my appointments with her. Now she only wants to see me every 6 months for a check-up and to make sure the pessary is still in good condition (which it is as we speak). Talk to your physio about the different sorts of pessary (there are lots) and how you would go about getting the best fit and comfort with her help. Good luck.
