bladder prolapse repair

hi all

Hope everyone is doing ok as far as possible I have a question for anyone who has opted for having vagina sewn up for bladder prolapse. I have been suffering for 18 months with only way I can describe it is a baby’s head size lump falling out of my nether regions. Stage 4 prolapse of bladder vaginal walls have turned inside out and I have a cyst in my bladder. I have had to completely change my wardrobe as I have to wear long tops to avoid embarrassment of people seeing the “bulge”. I have seen consultant had 5 different pessaries which fell out 10 minutes after they were put in and I don’t want to know now! The consultant told me it would be a very tricky operation taking two surgeons and 5 hours to perform a complete repair and remove the cyst. My other option is to have it sewn up which is day surgery. I am nearly 67 years old been single for a long time not looking for relationship so I am leaning towards the sewing up. Has anyone had it done and is it better I would like to know. They tell me if I have the bigger op it is no guarantee that it won’t happen again 😩 I am getting so depressed about it all and would love some feedback if at all possible.

Thank you in advance! x

Hi Tarotmumma. I was in touch with a lady in America last year who decided to have the op and be sewn. She said at the time that if she knew what she would go through and the after effects that she could still get problems she would never have had it done. I lost touch with her before Christmas and have not been able to be in contact, so I'm afraid I really don't know what has happened to her. If you are thinking of having this done, you really need to look into it further before you agree as this is a serious operation that cannot be reversed. Please let us all know what you decide.

I was told I would be considered too young for this at 67.I don’t have a sexual relationship as my husband had an operation years ago that made that not possible but wouldn’t have that kind op operation as if you had any problems down there I was told you could not have the op reversed to see to the problem.I was also informed having a repair or hysterectomy could not rule out a future prolapse.I am waiting for my operation and was told she would do 2 repairs and the hysterectomy if needed.I would prefer the hysterectomy as everything is taken thou it’s considered more risky and takes longer to recover. A fit person wouldn’t be at less risk.Like you the bulge is very big .I can’t wear leggings and feel so conscious of this bulge even with loose jeans on.Its awful isn’t it

Aww I'm so sorry that this has happened I had a bladder prolapse for 10 years thankfully it was moderate I could feel it if I put my finger inside but I managed it with hrt as its the lack of estrogen that causes your pelvic floor to drop I used a kegal.8 and vit d and collegan for 10 years so I could still feel it when I was on my feet alot or tired but came off hrt and it worsened so I had a bladder repair front n back.4 years ago best thing I ever did as no.more feeling the bulge ...however my mums friend had it completely sewn up as is happy with it ..so I suppose the choice is yours ..if you had the repair and it didn't work could you then have it sewn up ....if you hsve a repair keep your bowels open as any strain could put you bk to square one....I hope you get help as its truely awful ..please keep us upto date how you are ..sending hugs jeanette x
