Has anyone experience of Ospemifene

Hi I am interested to hear of anyones experience of taking the oral tablet Ospemifene and does it help with atrophy. Is it available in the UK? I am unable to use vagifem and estriol; the discharge burns and causes so much discomfort. I am due to see a pelvic floor dermatologist in a couple of days and I want as much information as I can. Thankyou very much; this website has been a huge help for me.

Hi there

Sorry I don't have an answer to your query but would be interested if anyone does as many topical creams etc also cause me soreness. I'm currently on HRT but conscious I will need to stop taking it in a year or two.

hi Sallyanne

I haven't any replies which is frustrating. I would love to give HRT a go but am 68 and most GP's say I am too old. I feel as if I am going round in circles. I have vulvodynia and prolapses all causing discomfort, burning and soreness. No-one seems to understand how the discharge from any type of local estrogen makes the stinging and soreness a lot worse. In the past I have tried a ring pessary but the consultant said I must use the estrogen so I just gave up. I tried a specialist pelvic floor physio who worked to release trigger points but I came away so sore and bleeding I had to wait longer and longer between sessions. I thought the Ospemifene tablet sounded interesting but don't know enough about it.

If the HRT suits you I would keep taking it as long as you can. Take care Helen

It sounds like ospemifene could be useful to you. Do you have very sensitive skin generally, like myself? I have a history of eczema and skin reactions to various products such as soap, facial moisturizers etc. I also have vulvodynia symptoms but my main issue is tight pelvic floor muscles.

Yes I've been taking it a while now, it was difficult to get hold of initially but Boots haven't had any supply issues for the last few months.

It does work very well for atrophy but the side effects can be a bit of a trial, I had really really bad hot flushes and annoying pelvic pain so I reduced my dose to every other day which works for me. Definitely easier than the topical options and worth a try if you can get it prescribed, it is pricey if you have to pay privately.

Could I ask if you have it prescribed on the NHS?

My first script was from my private Gynae then after that my GP prescribed it on NHS.

Thanks, that's useful to know.
