Anyone have experience with hrt and PBC? Currently on patch but menopause symptoms have returned. Thinking of oestrogen gel and progesterone tab. Gp not keen on the oral component. Liver levels improved since starting on Urso. Thanks for any input!

Menopause and PBC
I was told that I couldn't have hrt because of PBC
Good Morning...I hope this finds you feeling well. I have been on some kind of HRT for about 8 years now. I started with progesterone gels, used Chaste Tree Berry, and then finally when things got really bad, I too started on a transdermal patch. Problem with them is the fall off all the time and are quite pricey. Used creams for awhile, but deliver system varies due to body temperature and imprecise dosing. I was unfortunately prescribed oral synthetic after about a month of little sleep and feeling horrible. I switched to Bio-identical hormones in the form of a troche and I also have a vaginal cream. All of my doctors know about this and all agree that unless my PBC shows signs of worsening, that quality of life is more important. For me, it's finding a balance. Yes, I do watch and analyze everything I swallow and am careful to run things passed my doctors. I have to sleep, I need to maintain civil relationships,
I enjoy feeling comfortable in my own skin. We are going to have other issues in life other than PBC that require some type of intervention. I'm not sure, but would bet money that Australia has naturopathic doctors and compounding pharmacies. Might be worth looking into. Be well....M
Hi.I had hrt patch, started last Sept then in January I got a site reaction , itchy and red. So now I'm on tablets and no problems.
My hepatologist said it was fine to have low dose hrt. I'm delighted to have it. It's hard enough to have pbc and autoimmune inflammatory arthritis and go through menopause. My sweats and feeling of anxiety are gone now...Great!
Hope you get sorted.

I’d started taking a low dose HRT tablet, before the diagnosis of PBC, but i was relieved when I could continue with it. I couldn’t have coped otherwise. I only came off it , after the GP decided I’d been on it long enough 8 years in total so 4 years with PBC.
