I had annual travel insurance with the Nationwide. This year they changed their provider to Aviva. On contacting them to notify that I had PBC and narrowed arteries they refused cover. I am an Urso responder and therefore my liver readings fall within the normal range. I only know of the narrowed arteries as I took part in heart research. Despite being healthy, trying to get travel insurance was a challenge being given quotes in excess of £2,000. Is this normal.? Has anyone else found that the comparison sites refused to consider anyone with PBC?

I know you will be receiving other responses as this subject has been brought up before. This is so unfair. I know from personal experience that with PBC you also can not qualify for any life insurance or any long term care insurance. We all know that we likely take better care of our health than many of those who do get this type of insurance. It is very unfair.

I use Staysure, still more expensive than most but not in the thousands! I feel it's very unfair too. They put PBC in the same ball park as chirrosis!

Sometimes it is possible to exclude conditions from policies maybe worth a telephone call to Staysure or Allclear

Can I just add that Aviva are truly awful and heartless. I had private medical insurance through the company my husband works for. As I was being diagnosed two years ago, tests and specialists, I was under Cigna who were amazing. Then my husbands company switched to Aviva two weeks after my diagnosis. Aviva said it was a pre-existing condition (two weeks!) and they would not cover me. And that they also don’t cover “chronic” conditions. Really harsh, just felt so discarded

I tried a comparison site, as thought it would be a quicker way of finding insurance and no one would insure me! I am insured for multi trips with Avanti. They were a bit cheaper than Staysure, which is part of the same group. You could also try Holidaysafe.
