Protein shakes

Hi. Merry Christmas 🎄 to my dear friends.

I have a question, is there anyone using protein shakes (supplements) for training and exercise?? I don’t know if it’s safe for me or not. The problem is that my genetic trend is to be thin and I don’t want to get slimmer during exercise. I asked a sport medicine specialist and she said you only need to monitor kidney while using creatine or whey protein. I don’t have cirrhosis yet I am urso responder stage 2 pbc. Any recommendations are appreciated 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

G’morning. I can only speak for myself, but my hepatologist says no protein powders or shakes. He told me to drink Boost Max, 30 gm protein to help me gain weight. It’s working. 😊

Hi thank you for taking your time to answer me. What is Boost Max?

Protein drink

The good thing is it only has 1 gm sugar and I think 27 minerals and vitamins

Morning Gail....

Just thought I'd share this. I cannot believe your doctor thinks the ingredients in this are executable and a protein powder is not. Soy protein isolate is protein!!

Ingredients. Other ingredients include cocoa powder to give a chocolate taste, soy oil, soy protein isolate and canola oil. The regular Boost drink has water, sugar, corn syrup solids, milk protein concentrate and vegetable oil that includes canola, sunflower and corn. The Boost nutritional drink also has a chocolate flavor due to cocoa and alkali.

Love you...M

G’morning. I think my dr means none of the pre-made. I have no doubt homemade protein shakes are beneficial. Both heps that I’ve seen told me the same thing. Difference in our drs😊

I also have a full time job and don’t have enough time for making homemade protein drinks and prefer something available in stores😂😂😂 lazy girl... still no children...

Lol!😅. I like to keep it simple myself. I’m sure homemade would actually be better, but...😁

Morning...I'm huge on shakes as it is difficult for me to ingest a meal early in the day. without a shake of some sort, I'll go way too long without nutrients. Not Good! I cannot handle whey based protein, and choose not to use soy based either. So, I have tried many different plant based ones. My absolute favorite is by a company named 22 Days. I get the vanilla sweetened with stevia. I use either almond milk or macadamia nut milk and maybe some sort of fruit. Not sure what is available where you are, but another thought is egg white powder protein. Best of luck on this. Oh...my doctors are ok with protein shakes. Be well

Thank you for the information. I’m sure these are not available here in my region. But egg protein is available. I will search if I can make a mix by myself.

There are many recipes online that use other protein source than a powder. Here's a few that looked easy and tasty.

I was told by my liver spec that premier protein was good, 30 of protein and low carb and very low sugar..... you should not have more than 2 per day.... too high protein affects kidneys

Thank you for taking your time for answering 🙏🏻 So as I understood it seems that there’s no absolute contraindication for using protein drinks.

I am not sure, but I have gastroparesis which has gotten worse this year and list alot of weight. In desperation to meet calories, I finally found a protein drink I can tolerate by Owyn. What I don’t like is the sodium makes me thirsty! However, lots of healthier ingredients versus boost n ensure. I also use pb2 powder n make my own. Hope it helps

I use Tree of Life meal replacement shakes. They are composed of raw vegetable ingredients with awesome good things—a veritable superfood. I make them with low cal almond milk and sometimes add cinnamon. They are delicious. In summer, I put mine in the freezer for an hour or so for a refreshing slushy. Good luck.

Thank you useful information. Sadly I’m not sure if I can find that brand in my region. Will take a look. Are those restorable or must provide weekly?

It is a powder found at the local Vitamin Shoppe, or it can be ordered online through Amazon.

The brand is Garden of Life, not Tree of. . . Sorry.
