Diagnosed with PA now worried about thyroid

Hi,

As I posted earlier I have PA and am on periodic jabs of cyanocobalamin. I just had follow up blood tests about 3 months after diagnosis. Posting some of the numbers here to see if anyone sees any red flags. Should I test for Hashi antibodies or does it look OK? T3 seems kind of low. Is there a nutritional way to support T4 conversion?

Hi topher2018. Suggest you post your thyroid results in the thyroid forum...they're much more knowledgable about thyroid than we are here (well, me...at least 🙄). And yes, they will say get tested for thyroid antibodies (TPO and Tg). Here's a link to their forum:

Your vitamin B12 level's not very high for someone on B12 injections...when was your last injection prior to this test?

If you still have the symptoms of B12 deficiency, or if they come back before your next injection is due, it may well be that you are being under-treated and need more frequent B12 injections (though getting them more frequently from most GPs can be a problem). (Sorry, don't have time right now to check your previous posts and look see what's been going on).

Hi Foggyme,

I am done with loading dose phase and now on monthly injections. My last injection prior to blood test was about 2 weeks.

What would you expect level to be?

I have been taking daily sublinguals in addition to shots. Also daily multivitamin with a lot of b12 (20,000 x US recommended daily allowance).

I have some tingling in hands still.

Topher2018. Would expect B12 levels to be high - possibly over the top of the reference range, once injections have been started. It's usual to see levels of st least 1000 for those on injections (though this is no,indicator as to how effective the treatment is or if B12 is being given frequently enough).

All the guidelines state no requirement to check B12 levels following commencement of B12 injections (because they have been artificially raised by the injections) and that B12 levels can not therefore be used to manage treatment or assess the efficacy of treatment.

stichtingb12tekort.nl/weten... (Testing B12 During Treatment)

Sometimes take a while for repair to take place, especailly for neuro symptoms. If you find symptoms returning before your next injection, abating when you have that jab, and then returning before the next one, it's a sure indicator that you need more frequent injections.

In the UK, those with neuro symptoms (like you) should continue with every other day injections until there is no further improvement.

👍
