Is anybody on enbrel injections using the pen for rheumatoid arthritis and is it painful, I'm on benepali injections with a pen and they really do hurt so thinking of going on to enbrel I've been told they don't hurt as much.
Thankyou

They sting exactly the same, I’m afraid!

Where do you inject?
In my thigh I have also tried my stomach.
Ok stomach is best a good tight pinch I don’t use the alcohol wipes as that make the sting worse. I also warm up the pen. I leave it out for a few hours and then under my arm pit for 5/10 mins. If it is cold it hurts more
Hi, I use the pen you don't pinch your skin with the pen, I normally leave it out of the fridge for 2 hours before I inject it, thankyou for your reply.
Peter.
Hi peter I too use the pen but was told to pinch. It seems like we all told differently
If you inject in your thigh try your tummy. I was injecting in my thigh and it was agony and I had to stop. The nurse reckoned it was going into the muscle so try somewhere else 😊
I’m on benepali and get no discomfort. I used to when I alternated time my thighs. Now I just use stomach and it’s completely painless. When I did use thigh rheumy suggested applying ice to the area for 5 mins, it did help
I’ve been on Enbrel for over 10 years with a very short period - 4 weeks - on Benepali and the pain was the same.
I'm on enbrel and I take mine out the fridge the day before and I've found is better in your tum, been on enbrel since 2012. I don't think they'll let you go on enbrel, Benepali is a biosimilar drug and it's cheaper. I was told I had to switch to a bio drug and I refused, thankfully they let me stay on enbrel, but all new patients starting on anti tnfs had no choice in the matter, they had to go on a biosimilar drug.
I have had RA for over 40 years. I'v taken many tablets that worked fairly well but lost usefulness in 2 or 3 yrs. I used Humira injections (given myself using the syringe) for 4 yrs til it lost effectiveness. I have now used the Enbrel syringe for 6 yrs and I feel it is no longer effective but my dr. has not prescribed a new med. I much prefer the syringe for little or no pain when injecting.
The embrel pen stings aswell. However I got my pen changed to a syringe and i can put it in as slow or fast as i want. Its brilliant. Far better than the pen. I have now been switched the benepali and its syringe to
