Arthritis

Symptoms of arthritis

There are lots of different types of arthritis.

The symptoms you experience will vary depending on the type you have.

This is why it's important to have an accurate diagnosis if you have:

  • joint pain, tenderness and stiffness
  • inflammation in and around the joints
  • restricted movement of the joints
  • warm red skin over the affected joint
  • weakness and muscle wasting

Treating arthritis

There's no cure for arthritis, but there are many treatments that can help slow it down.

Osteoarthritis treatments include lifestyle changes, medicines and surgery.

Treatment for rheumatoid arthritis aims to slow the condition's progress and minimise joint inflammation. This helps prevent joint damage.

Treatments include medication, physiotherapy and surgery.

Common symptoms of arthritis include pain, swelling and stiffness in 1 or more joints.

The main treatments for arthritis are lifestyle changes like exercise, physiotherapy and medicines. Surgery may be needed in more severe cases.

Arthritis

I have arthritis in my right index and middle finger. The pain in the index finer is excruciating at times. Anyone else suffering from this? Any suggestions? I live in the UK, no joy from GP. I personally think it stems from repetitive strain, as I was a primary school teacher.

Arthritis in pinky finger

The top joint of my little finger has osteo arthritis. He told me that really the only thing to stop the pain is to fuse the joint. Has anyone done this and felt better or does it cause secondary problems?

Severe knee arthritis

I have bone on bone compartmental arthritis in both knees and have been told I need total knee replacements. I’m keen to avoid surgery if possible so am researching other ideas. Has anyone tried red light therapy and if so does it provide any pain relief or regeneration of cartilage etc.

Fibro or arthritis pain?

How can I tell if it's the arthritis, fibro or the pain caused by ME/CFS? I would appreciate any advice. I've made an appointment to see my gp to discuss.

Too young for arthritis?

I think rheumatoid arthritis could also be a possibility. Other than this I suffer from IBS and PCOS and migraines. Which combined can be pretty debilitating and painful 😖 Does anyone have any advice how I can cope/manage?

Fibro and stabbing foot pain?

As far as I know it's not an arthritis thing, so I was wondering if anyone else here suffers from something similar, and if it's a fibro thing?

Psoriatic arthritis?

I have been told by my GP when I asked to be referred to a Rheumatologist , as I have had osteoarthritis for years, to see if this might be psoriatic arthritis,….he refused. Said I had osteoarthritis due to old age, and psoriatic arthritis sufferers have inflammatory arthritis.

arthritis appearing at low dose pred

I think I have read on the forum at some time, that arthritis can be masked by pred , and as you get to the end of your PMR journey, as I hope I am, the arthritis shows up. Am I right in thinking I have read this here?

Too young for arthritis?

The Dr told me I was too young for arthritis and my weight isn’t so bad to cause such problems so it’s a winter thing. He advised me to take Vit D and come back if I have the same problem in the summer.

Rheumatologist doesn't want me to stay on pred

I also gave inflammatory arthritis. There us a distinct difference between pmr pain and the inflammatory arthritis pain . She would have me take methotrexate before daily pred.
