35 years of smoking

I have tried numerous times and have yet to succeed permanently. I have smoked for 35 years give or take. I am taking champix to help me. I have taken it before and it did help, I quit for 8 months....and then I started again. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with RA so that should make me want to quit ....unfortunately even that wasn't a strong enough reason. I need to quit...that's all I can say:)

hi nadavat

you are a bit like me.im 55 smoked for 40 years.

I was borderline Copd and have a thyroid problem. (copd seems to have decreased a lot)

when researching thyroid I came across a "throat cancer " stoping smoking advert.

Well it terrified me.a woman Took har hair off (wig)

she took her false teeth out (decay due to cancer )

she removed her scarf to reveal a Hole in her throat.(throat caner)

that was enough for me.terrified that would be me.

when I get bad craveing (not often now )I go back and scare myselth.

I don't say this to scare but just a idea that seemed to work for me.

you are stronger than you think 😁

take care 😊

keep kicking 😎

That has freaked me out! Just even reading what you have wrote never mind actually seeing the ad is scary. That is the kind of thing we all want to avoid and the reality is if we continue to smoke we are nominating ourselves for it. Smoking is not worth it in the slightest.

Hello and welcome nadavat

Well it is good news that you have decided to take the plunge again. I have smoked for about 30+ years as well ( it's been so long I cannot remember) and am currently on relapse #3!

Just take things 1 day at a time. It can be done and there is no reason that you cannot do it. Each quit is different. Don't let past failures cloud your judgement about your chances of success this time.

Keep going. Post as often as you need to. ☺☺

Try to read up as much as you can on addiction and quitting especially the pinned posts across this page.

Hey nadavat

It has only been a week for me so jump on board and given it a try! I have found that this forum has really helped.

I am also the kind of person who can quit, but not permanently (longest quit was 13 months). It seems I have a problem staying quit but have now realised that quitting is a life long battle. Although the cravings will reduce there will always be temptation to smoke but realising even one puff can put me back on the wrong road helps to stay motivated.

I am determined to quit permanently and this site has helped me a lot.

Good luck with your quit
