Day 12 of champix....still smoking

I am on Day 12 of champix.

I'm still waiting for champix to kick in? I've noticed in the past few days that I am smoking less was on between 20-25 cigarettes a day and am not making more conscious decisions of actually having one so has reduced to between 15-20.

My quit day is day 14 *start of lent* but I really don't think I'm ready. Have had minimal side effects apart from funny dreams and had very bad cramps day 8 but that was it.

I still want a fag and enjoy everything about it πŸ˜‚ are fhey working properly? Is it just my willpower being a bit lax?

Help πŸ˜‚

Hi MJ,

I am on Day 9 of being smoke free and I am using Champix. I read the instructions that come with it and everything I could online. The bottom line seems to be aimed at quitting around 1 to 2 weeks after starting the course. This did not apply to me.....Not even close. I had started my 5th week before I felt ready. I started to feel the benfits of the tablets in week 4, but was only really mentally ready by week 5.

My advice is to keep taking them, read up everything you can about nicotine withdrawl and look at keeping Champix as an aid for a minimum of12 weeks.

Hopefully we will both make it! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

This makes me feel so much better!! I do feel they are slightly working in the sense that I'm not smoking as much but they have had no effect on the taste/smell of them whatsoever! I will continue to take them for now anyway see how I get on. Thank you for your input. ☺

They will work, they have for me, you will still have to fight withdrawals, but stay strong, you got this

MJ ..Please forgive me for being straight forward....

Champix never kicks in....You must kick in (and Champix will help you all the way....)

in your words "but I really don't think I'm ready"....it means you are not ready to quit...

Champix does not make you quit ...you must quit...

I was a heavy smoker for 38 years at 60 per day and quitted almost 4 years ago with the aid of Champix because I wanted to quit....! or land myself pulling an oxygen bottle along.

Day 14 is a good target,,,,,please take the leap and stop...

Stay strong ...!

Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid my wording may have been incorrect. I am quite a heavy smoker too with severe asthma, a huge factor for making me quit. I do want to quit for various reasons, I just thought champix would have a stronger effect to aid me. I still have a strong craving to smoke no different to when I wasn't taking champix so I'm just questioning really are they actually working for me.

THATS it, what I wanted to say, but didn't dare :) YOU still need to be the one to do it. I am on month 3 with Chantex and its a daily struggle, but it what I want.

Welcome Mj1556 and congrats on making the best decision of your life to stop smoking. πŸ‘πŸ‘

Both Seahawk and Hercu gave you excellent advice, in particular, that champix is not the magic pill and does not necessarily kick in. YOU are doing all the work mentally to stop not the champix. I stopped cold turkey over 3 and a half years ago but read up alot on different aids and NRT's and champix just takes the edge of cravings at the initial stage when you put out your last cigarette.

Everyone's journey is unique to them so just take it one day at a time and see how it goes. Read up as much as you can here and elsewhere on nicotine addiction and withdrawals as knowledge is power πŸ’₯πŸ“šπŸ€”

We look forward to your day 1 post very soon :)

Thank you MJ ...for understanding and yes, we will never feel ready to quit....I mean how can you drop a good supportive friend after relying on it for so many years at once...

That is the difficult part...throwing away that last one...

But you are suffering from Asthma...and need to stop !! ..I do not know your age but do not wait till you reach 60 like me to stop smoking....

That friend we smokers relied on for so many years is really killing us....I still can not forgive myself for allowing my addiction to batter my body for so many years.....

But very proud that I could stop and start the new amazing life I am living now...

No huffing and puffing when riding bicycle with my grandchildren...smelling the soil after rain...Breathing the fresh sea breeze on my kayak....living life the way it should be...!

Try it...you will be amazed...!

Hi, I have been on Chantex for 3 months, yes they are working. there should be a day very soon when you cant stand the taste, you wont even think of a smoke .for me chantex made me very sick, along with the wonderful dreams, I got nausea, head ache, shaky, but after 3 months that has backed off some. I found they worked better in the beginning, the "3's" are real. the third day is ruff, the 3rd week is ruff, the 3rd month is driving me crazy. I am depressed, NO energy, moody, bitchy, I want a smoke. BUT I hear past the 3rd month is easier, so I am fighting hard. WE got this.

Are those the tablets? I tried those before and they made me feel increasingly queasy but these things affect people differently. I'm on the patches but no matter what you use it surely takes will power. I'm only on day 4 but I'm very determined that this is it. Good luck quitting
