Non smoking 4 Years of an Amazing life

When I stopped smoking 4 years ago the best thing I could do is to join this forum where I could be in the midst of people with the same sufferings and uncertainty.

We cried together, ranted together, laughed together although we were worlds apart and that made it bearable.,…

To stop smoking is not easy, In the 4 years so many things happened to me …Very nice things like I could afford newer model Land Rover…I have bought a Jet ski for fishing, a new top of the range Kayak…and could go away on weekends enjoying my new found breathable life….

Also had a few bad incidents like the passing of a dear brother in law, myself having a triple arterial bypass and my son and dear grand children moving back to South Africa for proper schooling and sport and of course the ongoing drought in the Southern Mozambique…..

But..Not once I thought that a cigarette would make life easier in difficult times and in good times I thanked the lord for giving me the strength to get rid of the nasty addiction…

To quote Allan Gary “Life isn’t always beautiful, but it's a beautiful ride.”

Truly, once you start living the life without the stench, the huffing and puffing, regaining the normal tasting and smelling of things you have forgot like the smell of soil after rain, smelling wild flowers, the sea…it is amazing….

All of us on this forum made the best decision of our lives the day we decided to quit smoking..

Stay strong and enjoy your smoke free life….(I am)

Thank you, I needed to hear this. Some days I feel on top of the world, others I struggle. I feel like I am going through the death of a friend, dumb as that sounds. Each next thing that I associated with having smokes I get down, but haven’t smoked! Congrats to you!!

Another great message Hercu.

And I hope you and your neighbors smell the soil after rain soon, and often.

Just came home from a friend's wedding in Paris. Our table had 3 friends all of whom had quit smoking. Too bad we weren't smarter when we were younger.

CocoaXChange..Fantastic hearing from you...and yes, rain is a faint memory here in the South where the North was almost been washed to sea....with Millions of people lost their houses and every thing they had...Beira became an ocean...only 1500 km North of us..

Our reservoir is only 28% and we are restricted to 4 days, 8 hours per day irrigation and being winter now the rainy season only starts in October...

Ja, as I said to Roisin, my Daughter in Law, only 36 years old have had a triple bypass and is still smoking...

Yes, also wished for a smarter youth...But luckily never to old to learn...!

Hercu 🥳congratulations for 4 years smoke free . We are worlds apart but we share the same journey to freedom ..I enjoy very much reading your post with so much nature ,adventure and with all the ups and downs trough all this new life .

Keep enjoying this amazing breathable life . We are free !!!

. 🎉🎉🎉

Very soon on June 28 , I will celebrate 2 years smoke free 💗

Karina, so nice to hear from you and two years ....wow ! ...Truly free...

For shure, I am taking the life out of life and enjoy every moment...

The nice thing after 2 years is that smoking is a distant memory and the very best thing is that you don't want to remember...!

Hope you celebrate your 2 years freedom in style..! Congratulations !!

Ah Hercu , great to hear from you! 4 years eh, time just flying by its scary :O

Sorry to read of the passing of your brother in law and that your son has moved away, surely it will be an opportunity for yourself and Hetta to head off regularly to visit them.

I have been so busy for the last couple of months with working (agency work as a chef in a local hospice and residential home for the elderly), a lot of family occasions and my novelty cake baking has really taken off since January. Things have quietened down a bit now which is welcomed but hopefully not for long.

Thank you Roisin, It is true, time flies and it is scary....Wished it was so quick in the early days of our quits where we counted the hours...

Yes the Grand children is sad but seeing how well they are doing in their school and sport it is for the best....

The 9 year old already got her provincial colors in cross country and is winning race after race...She is piling up the medallions..

The 11 year old is not and athlete but doing so well in Chess and orator speeches..

The teachers love them.....

Yes, they moved to the province neighbouring Mozambique were my son manage a Macadamia Farm.

Yes, Hetta was privileged to stay with them for six weeks when my Daughter in Law (36 years old) had a triple bypass as well and still smoking like an coal locomotive..

(I think they should have opened the ears rather)

I am glad your novelty business took off ...You deserved it...

Nice chatting to you again..

This made me feel hopeful. Am going to try again. It’s just too stressful to continue. Can’t use chantix again so feeling anxious bc I really never quit long before it. Went 11 months and had just that one...that we can never have.
