Morning all!

I was on numerous quit smoking forums 18 months ago and quit for 5 months,it was great! Then I went on a Health & Safety course for a week.Out of the 20 people on the course 11 of them smoked.I felt really good everytime there was a tea break and they all dived outside for a fag! Then at the end of the week there was an exam and I cracked and went out with the rest of them and had a smoke. It blew my head off,I felt dizzy, sick etc. Then I thought I would have another one on the way home just to see If I felt sick again!Bad mistake Ive been on 20 a day ever since!

Fast forward a year and Im now off sick with a bad chest infection,Im on 6 steroids and 3 antibiotics every day for a week,I can hardly breathe and the cough is a nightmare! Doctor says I might have to go in to hospital to go on a machine to open up my airways.

This has really made my think that although I enjoy a smoke my body doesnt!Im pretty fit as I cycle and row but always have a good cough afterwards and then a fag!

I made my mind up enough is enough Im quitting for good this time!

Im still smoking at the moment,I must be mad as it only makes me feel worse!

I will be going back to work in 2 days so that is my quit date 8/10/09!

Well thats my story, hope I didnt waffle on for too long!

Pete aged 42 (soon to be a non smoker!)

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you on board.

Sounds like health wise you are really suffering and stopping smoking can only help that. You say that you like smoking, well you need to do some serious reading. Look for the links in some of the signitures and they will really help you get your head in the right place for your final quit. You need to realise that you do not like smoking that you are addicted and that is the only reason you smoke, and trust me reading the links will help you do this.

You can come on here and waffle as much as you like, you can rant or rave, whatever you need to get off your chest:eek:

You don't say how you are quitting, Cold Turkey, NRT? it doesn't matter because all quits are different but it is just good to know. Do you have any support at home?

Well, you see i can waffle too, post often to let us know how you are getting on.

Hi Peetee

Sorry to hear you struggling, you know deep inside that its fags making you ill and get all the help you can.

I suggest the non smoking advisor at your local docs, they are good and will be able to maybe recommend a product and we will all give back up on here.

Good luck and read all you can

Hi Pete :)

Well done on the decision to stop smoking a huge step for most of us and hope all goes well on the 8th

Sorry you're poorly just now with a chest infection though

Below is my standard welcome and advice post which I try and give all new members

Welcome to the forum and well done on the decision to quit possibly one of the most important you will ever make and you will be losing nothing but you will regain control of your life and that has to be good

You will find all the help and support you need on here as we all help each other just like a family we are here for you every step of the way cheering the good days and sympathiseing with the bad but the good far outweigh the bad

Read the posts on here you will find a lot of tips and advice and in the signatures of a lot you will find links to other sites just click on them Here are 2 I find very good to start you off whyquit.com and woofmang.com Read, read and then read some more as the more you read and learn about why you smoked and about your addiction the easier your quit will be

This link is good for the psychological part of quitting

whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Sympt...

Post often to let us know how you're doing, to rant, rave have a moan whatever you like pretty much anything goes on here OK
