day 6, patches and e-ciggerette

Hi

I am new here, day 6 of being a non-smoker, have been using 24hr patches (but taking it off before I go to bed) and the odd puff on an electronic ciggerette, must say that it hasn't been too bad stopping, feel quite ok and already feel healthier in regards to my asthma!!

When I feel the urge to smoke I remind myself of how I felt when I did smoke, couldn't breathe properly, hated the fact that I needed to smoke, kept thinking if I got lung cancer how my 4 yr old daughter would feel.

I am going to bed each night feeling proud that I haven't smoked and I honestly feel so much healthoier,

I haven't needed my ventolin inhaler since day 2,

When I smoked I took this maybe 4 or 5 times a day!!

Welcome

Well done for getting so far.

It just goes to show how quickly our bodies repair themselves from the damage that we have done to them

You are doing great, and seem very positive.

Keep going and before you know it you'll be at 1 week:)

All the best Debby09

I am using patches too, i'm on day 20 at the moment, and have a 2 year old daughter too, whom i want to make sure that i do my best by, and that includes not slowly poisoning myself by smoking. I was always a strong willed person, stubbon at times sure, but smoking just doesn't fit in with my life, no more. I just don't want and as the days go by now... or need to smoke.

I cannot see any positive reasons to smoke, everything i ever said to justify my reasons to smoke were lies, or i'd been hoodwinked into believing them and now my reasons to smoke have become my reasons NOT to smoke.

The didn't make me feel more confident, in fact they were testament to my lack of confidence if i needed them.

They didn't help me think over things, not really, i can still think without them, i just conned myself there again, all i need to do is take a time out to think, not smoke something in the process.

They gave me the chance to take a break from my desk at work? Oh really?! Yeah was conning myself there too, the only thing stopping me taking a break from my desk now at work is me again, and all i do now is stand up and go for a walk anywhere else on site for a bit and come back, the end result for me is still the same, except i've come back without having a smoke.

and as for the main last one.. its a social thing? No.. going out to the pub etc is a social thing, i was mostly smoking when out due to a moment where it was quiet and had nothing much to say, but what i find better is to invite someone out who you've not seen in a while who is normally chatty and you don't get those 5 mins of nothing to say. If you get bored, rip the label off a beer bottle like you see everyone else doing :)

Smoking calms me down? Well if the past 3 weeks have been anything to go by then thats a lie too, smoking winds you up to the point where you believe they are the thing that calms you down again. Now i'm in the mindset where if i feel myself getting wound up and tetchy, i stand back from the situation and in worst case scenario go for a lie down if i'm at home, but i cannot, and will not allow smoking to con me into believing they will calm me down any more.

Oh heck, i've ranted again. sorry :o

Jase180709 The worst thing for me as a smoker was imagining I had been told I had terminal lung cancer and had only months to live and how my daughter would feel losing her mum like that , and how I would feel not being able to be there in her life.

I am a single parent so feels really really really important that I am there for her through childhood!

bex,

that is a very good reason, everyone should have a personal reason like that, but use these forums for the extra support you need, you'll get easy times and tough times, i think we all do, and its nice knowing your not actually alone in it.

well it has a vaporiser in it and liquid nicotine, so when you inhale it turns the nicotine into vapor which you inhale, but am waiting for the inhalator, don't have these in sweden so ordered from the uk, had planned on stopping a bit later but just had the inclination to stop so went with it!

Good luck with your quit Bextala, like you I'm on the patches - I was using the inhalator too but kept losing it (after only 3 days lol) so decided to see how I went without (couldn't actually be arsed to buy another one) and I must say I don't miss it now at all.

I'm 33 and started when I was 16.

Last day of week one!!! The real test comes tonight as i'm off out to the pub, good thing is none of my friends smoke, will observe the smokers and imagine not being able to breathe properly and sneakily having to take my inhaler. I'm sure it will be a positive experience!!!!
