Day without a patch :-)

Hi

I had a terrible reaction to my patch yesterday, and 2 days before that too. Only had it on for 1.5 hours. Called the docs and they decided to put me on a lower strength to see if that helps. I took the patch off at 10.30 am and didnt get my prescription until 4pm. Obviously didnt put it on at that time of the day.

I am chuffed with myself that I didnt feel any major craves for a cig :D

While I type this I have just realised I havent put my lower dose patch on today yet :D

I must admit, I am a bit unsure whether to put it on or not after yesterday.

Waffle over

Have a good day everyone

x

Oh wow you're doing brilliantly Amanda :)

Um, for what it's worth I'd stick with the patches (pun intended :p) 'cos I drifted around different kinds of NRT early on in my quit and don't think that helped me.

Obviously it's up to you but it's what I'm trying to do now while kicking the e-cig and it's more or less working. :)

*But* you should feel dead proud of yourself for not craving while patchless, that's flipping fantastic!! xx

This is a good idea ^^^ Just try it out :) But don't panic if it's not reacting well and you have to remove it. You have already proven that you manage just fine without, so I'm sure you'd be okay.

In my view, it's always best to stick with your NRT method until the end of the course, but that's only because I didn't stick to a method and I struggled in the first few weeks.

You seem to have a very positive attitude and you just need to stick with what works for you. :D

What sort of reaction did you have Amanda?

I used patches last year and got sickness and diarrhoea cos they were too strong. Then i got really itchy swelling where i was putting the patches on my arms and my cessation nurse told me to put them further away from my heart so stopped putting them on my arms and put them on my thighs instead and it worked! Everything was good after that!

Bizarre but true........! X

When I removed the patch at the end of the day I had a red, raised very sore rectangle where the patch had been and it took 24 hours to go down. Yesterday the soreness was there withing an hour of putting it on so i took it off.

Have 15mg patches now, put it on at about 9.30 - 10 this morning and am having no problems at all.

I'm loving the fact that after a mid-day nap (signed off work atm, unable to do anything and bored stiff) I dont crave a cig like i used to :D

Bugger, the lower dose patch also irritated my skin. Had to take it off just over an hour ago because the soreness/pain was too much :(

Will call the nurse tomorrow because I feel I need more than just lozenges.

Oh well, day 18 tomorrow :D

Oh pooh, was hoping the lower dose version was ok for you!:( Here's hoping she can think of something else you can try

Me too Kat. Im not going to let it get me down. Will call them first thing tomorrow. Got a cracking headache so obviously not drunk enough today. Think im gonna hit the sack.

See you on day 18 x

Hey,

In case this helps..

I changed my brand of patches and my allergies went. I was suffering with itchy sore skin, nausea and my arm or leg would go numb and it would feel painful to move.

I changed my brand and that really helped, also I agree with putting it on your leg- I found this much better.

I also religiously have a spare patch in my purse now since I had a couple of day where they fell off (to much moisturiser before putting it on).

So glad u felt good without it though, it really does make u feel like a superhero!!

Laura :-) xx

Thanks Laura

If the nurse gives me some different patches I will try them on my leg, although I tried these patches on my thigh and still had reaction :(

It's strange isn't it.

Try a different brand and see- I assumed I would always react badly but I saw some nicotinelle half price in boots and just decided to buy them. They have worked wonders for me.

Really hope it helps- the last thing we need is to change what we are using!

Fingers crossed for you x

Never thought about trying a different brand, mine are the Niquitin ones and although thy itch and give me red marks I can live with that - you obviously have a much worse reaction which really sucks.

Anyway, if it helps, I get mine off eBay and they're around £7-8 for a week's supply - don't know if you pay for them on prescription or not but if you do it's around the same cost :)

You're very welcome :)

My last lot were around £7 including post, and came really fast so it's brilliant :D xx

oh dont get them off ebay, they could be so dodgy. You can get them on prescription so will be what £7 for 2 weeks!

the nicotinelle (sp) 16 hour clear patches I found were very good, used them for the first 2 weeks full strength, then cut them in half for the next 4 day then...just sort of forgot about them but I have put one in my purse in case i ever feel too much of a crave.

please please be careful of the ebay ones, if it is too good to be true, it probably is...

I find the V-I-A-G-R-A I get off Ebay is very good value

Whops did i say that :D:D

I would compare ebay meds to coffee, if it is cheap, it will probably be cra£. the real stuff will have enough caffeine/whatever in it that it will be the real thing and like viagr@, it will keep you up all night. really not worth saving a pound or two a week if you think of the damage you are doing to your skin!

( by the way, have you ever looked at the reviews that havee been done on make up that has been bourght on ebay eg Benefits etc and the damage it has done to peoples eyes etc??)

you are putting these patches on your skin and the stuff in them is going into your body......I will now shut up and stop lecturing xxxx

Nothing wrong with getting them from ebay as long as they are in sealed sachets. Lots of people don't use the whole supply so may as well sell them. Not so sure about the ****** though :D

Sorry Trea, I disagree completely.

Mine are Niquitin Clear patches, new and sealed exactly the same as I bought from Boots, with an expiry date well into next year.

There is no difference at all except I save a lot of money. Same for NRT gum I get off there too.

Exactly, I sold mine on there before and now i'm back on patches buy them too.

Tend to get them from business sellers because they're faster, but always with a picture of the actual item, and have never had a problem!!
