First day newbie!

I smoked my (hopefully) last ciggie at about 3am. I am using patches & an inhaler for when I feel I need a little extra help. I also have Alan Carr's DVD & Paul McKenna's book & CD ( talk about back up eh!!) So far I'm not feeling too bad, I just have to remember I not to reach for something that is no longer there at the time smoking gave me the most pleasure........driving, after a meal etc.

I just want to wish everyone else who is also tackling this today lots of luck & support, i'm sure, at times we'll all need each other.

xx

Well done and welcome on board! I still keep the Allen Carr book on my coffee table for when I need a reminder of why stopping smoking makes sense.

You've taken the biggest step and things can only get better from here.

And don't forget, if you have any problems or questions just log on here - we're a friendly bunch... and have all been there! :)

A....bless you all for your replies & support, it's lovely to know your not alone & very much appreciated.

I couldn't quite get my head around the Alan Carr DVD, I don't think the cheesy looking chap doing all the talking helped - I just wanted to punch him! ( & I'm not a violent person - honest!) The Paul Mc. book was faring better until he got to all the "mind over matter exercises" I'm sure it works for a lot of people but it doesn't really do it for me.

I've not really had a bad day & after 30 yrs of smoking have now been smoke free for 22 hrs...small steps eh. The worst times were after I did some cleaning today, I usually have a cuppa & a ciggie & after meals but I just sat & rubbed my patch like it was some sort of magical genie!

It's my hubby's birthday today & he says me stopping is the best present ever & I've told everyone I know that I've stopped ....... so no pressure there then!

I'll go now before I bore you all silly as I'm sure you've all heard this so many times but again, thank you all for being here for me & everyone else....it's a huge help & I just hope I'll be in the same position as you a year from now & I'll be able to spur someone forward too.

xx

Me thinks you will be tons a fun on here :-) No worries about the Allen Carr thing.... my ex quit the 'easyway' and I think I am still pissed at him for it :D For some it is this way for some it is another but we all knew in our mind that we would have (or want to) stop at some point in our life and the day is now... today.... so take each day as it comes... talk to us newbies on here..... for me it helped. Don't worry about the pressure... really, you can start anytime again.... but you don't want to, do you??!!!! You'll be fine.... easy or hard... we'll be here if ya need to talk! Keep :):)

Welcome to the forum! Marg gave you 2 great links to read. Understanding why people smoke will really help you to quit and stay quit. Read as much as you can, education is the key. Post when you want, whether to rant and rave or ask questions. We've all been there and want to help. Well done on 1st day. Keep smiling :D

Hi folks.

Well it's day 3 today & I haven't given in, I am rather pleased with myself as could really smoke one right now but I'm not going to. It's like I've got the devil & angel on each shoulder.

Think I over did it with the old inhaler last night though as I gave myself terrible heartburn.Keep forgetting its not a real ciggie & I was "puffing" away so hard that I nearly gave myself an aneurysm!

We went out for hubbys birthday & my best friend (bless her) hid herself away from me around the back of the restaurant........I was like a sniffer dog tracking the scent through the shadows, I found her & I'm pleased to say it smelt so foul close up. It was lovely to go to bed later on & still be able to smell the shampoo I'd used earlier on my hair & not the contents of an ashtray - that's one thing I won't miss.

The high spot of my day is waiting to go to bed to slap another patch on - how sad am I?? I must say I usually have boring mundane dreams so these funky one's I'm having at the moment are rather a novelty - put it this way I could give Stephen King a good run for his money!!!

I've had a look at those 2 suggested websites & both look interesting, problem is at the moment I can only understand that I DID enjoy smoking no matter how "brainwashed" nicotine made me but they are sites I'll certainly go back to later. Thanks ever so much to everyone who's helping to make this more bearable - your all worth your weight in gold!!!

Welcome and congrats!

Jus wanna mention that, for me, allen carr is great to stop. works real well.

however I have read his book and stopped many many times!

(including this time, a great book ;) )

I believe that he missed out a vital piece of the puzzle in his instructions though

That is...to conciously help other smokers to quit once you have found freedom.

That is actually what he did in real life in addition to his method.

But we cant all be opening "easyway" clinics can we , hahha

This is also how alot of alcoholics & frug addicts can stay clean & sober:

by helping others

to some people this is just obvious and second nature, but not to me!

I needed to be told

Good luck and have fun

I love being a non smoker :)
