G'day my newly diagnoser (Newby) sisters and brothers. Go grab a pencil and a piece of paper. Stop crying for a few minutes and concentrate. YOU, my dear sibling, are at the beginning of a very long journey. Where do YOU want to go? Let us be serious, a cure is not an option today, if YOU find that it is an option please let us all know, and of course PROVE IT.
Okay, do YOU understand what I am saying? Plot out a course with the tasks that YOU need to achieve to get where YOU want to go. Broad strokes are fine for now, but leave room to fill in details as the years pass by and your knowledge grows.
An option for YOU.
The first step start a Disease Modifying therapy (DMT). I suggest the strongest currently available. Ocrevus, I believe, this might change if something new and stronger comes along. It will have side effects, all medicines do even aspirin. Learn ways around them. A full stomach, food and liquid may be pre and post-injection. On this I am not an expert so ask your Doctor.
Exercise, stretch eat right. This can not hurt and will pay off in the long run, There is no food technique which is THE answer Do what is best for YOU and change and adapt if YOU need to.
Second, or third whichever. LEARN ABOUT YOUR DISEASE. This is very important. Learn what the Central Nervous System (CNS) is, What the peripheral nervous system is. I do not ask you to pass a PHD test but to have a working knowledge of what is what. This will help as days years decades go by,
Thirdly make efforts to make yourself mentally stomg. This is a progressive lifelong disease with no cure currently. Be ready for that and do not let progression break YOU. My bowel and bladder have started to be a problem, So I have started wearing adult protective underwear (depends). Hard at first but I adapted. Learn to roll with the punches,to adapt.
This is a crazy illness but we are strong, able to cope and thrive with it. Give yourself time, wipe away the tears for now and start living with a plan.
