I'm new here, but not new to low moods!...been like this for many years, (I'm 65), had lots of bad things going on in my past, now have a lovely partner and no worries financial or otherwise , but still feel very low. I have started taking mitrapine (3 weeks ago). Spelt that wrong! Have been on Prozac and sertraline in the past no effect, how long do these take to work?

Medication takes on average 3-4 weeks to work. This is really dependent on your own body chemistry. Doctors will start at a low dose which may be increased slowly ( start low, go slow). If this medication doesn't work, the next drug may be from a different drug group or a second one can be added. It is natural to be impatient to see an improvement. Communication with your doctor equals a better outcome for you. Tell them if you don't think its working or if you get side effects that aren't tolerable.
Hello Andrew, Welcome
Five weeks.
Be patient and give time for the medications time to work
It is important you try and let the drug work, we cannot just keep changing this type of medication varieties are not infinite. Also every time you change it takes more time for drugs to work well

Thank you
The tablets your taking did not work for me. I have had a traumatic past too. But thats the answer PAST. I am on Deluxatine now and i take any group councilling and help i can get. Diazpam i dont take now. However its handy to know its there if i teally need it. Dont let the past poisen the person you can be. Hope this helps
