Looking for advice - uncomfortable with consultant’s diagnosis and attitude to treatment.

Looking for a bit of advice. I was diagnosed with AKN in June 2021 having first identified issues on my scalp in November 2020. Have tried every antibiotic combination under the sun, tried intralesional steroids and had an unsuccessful referral to Plastics. Since June 2024, this has spread to face and beard area.

I’ve got concerns about the diagnosis, as the issue presents itself much more like Folliculitis Decalvans than AKN. Consultant has ignored my concerns since I first raised them (after another consultant (not mine) initially raised the concern to me). Also ignored my concerns about it spreading to my face. I’m scared to leave the house, and too embarassed to socialise. I’m a 23 year old man with no hope of meeting anyone and feel let down by the care I’ve received. Any advice?

Feel free to get your GP to refer you to the consultant who you have confidence in. It is your right to access secondary care in any NHS hospital in the country. You are not bound to see a consultant in your local hospital. You can also arrange to see a consultant privately.
