antibiotic advice.

hi all, a few weeks ago I was prescribed clarithromycin For a strange lump/cyst in front of my right ear. After reading a lot of review online i asked the doc if there was an alternative as the potential side effects didn’t seem to be worth it for a small painless lump. I was re prescribed erythromycyn . Again after reading the side effects I came across the side effect of cardiac death! I really need to take these tablets but I’m worried il be the one that ends up with something going wrong with my heart. Has anyone else used this before and had any issues?

About 3 years ago I took Clarithromycin for cellulitis (a skin rash). It did clear the rash but for a few days afterwards I had very high blood pressure (about 200/100) and heart rate. These soon returned to normal for me.

How about visiting an ENT doctor or a dermatologist to determine what this “cyst” is, and to determine if it really needs an antibiotic?

well turns out i stuck a pin in the sucker and it was just full of white gunk and yellow puss. Seems to have sorted it for now

could be a sebaceous cyst.. they will recur one does not get the sac out… that’s why I suggest and still suggest you see an dermatologist or an ear doctor…

or it could be some other kind of cyst? A tumor?

I don’t think so. I have drained it. I don’t think tumours are full of white and yellow puss. It’s right on my hairline I front of my ear. Probably just a ingrown hair that got infected

Your decision…. seemed to bother you enough to try and see what others thought here. If it were me, I would have it reevaluated by a professional.
