struggle taking tablets

I have been diagnosed with low grade prostate cancer and benigh prostatic enlargement.

For the enlargement and poor urine flow i am prescribed Tamsulosin 400 microgram once a day.I struggle badly with side effects of these ,bad headache and dizziness and have improved little.I feel tablets could be useful but wonder if anyone taken a lower dose similar tablet has seen improvement and if there is a lower dose eqiuvalent.Also suffer from retrogade ejaculation due to tablets.

if i dont take tablets howver i feel more pain in back especially at night.Wonder if any lower dose tablets available or alternative.

Urologist gets abit annoyed when say that struggleto take tablets but this is true and abit depressing his reaction as i feel my problem.

will try ,thanks.Tablets in capsule form diffundox xl 400 so abit difficult to halve.is there any lower dosage similar alpha blockers as get terrible headache ,stuffiness and poor sleep nearly as bad as getting up 2 or 3 times per night plus the dizziness.Thanks reply though.pete

Cheers.will suggest this to my urologist.Does same apply to cardura ,which on some websites has better patient ratings .is tamsulosin regarded as most effective or is it cheapest?.Sorry being cynical but i know from experience of antidepressants that sometimes cheapest prescribed first rather than most effective. I wont mention our conversation to my urolgist just appreciate views and BPH is common problem older men and from reading side effects a problem with alot of men also.Thanks

Get GP/Urologist to consider you trying ALFUZOSIN; I take one 2.5 mg twice/day and find the retro ejaculation not so bad as with Tamsulosin, and the sex better. Another med used in these cases is Finasteride but that reduces your testosterone level so might not appeal to you.

Alos the sex important to me as well as though older still like to indulge given the opportunity.

I take one tab in the morning and one at bedtime. Also - my friend in Canada gets prescribed a tiny-dose Viagra type pill of which he takes one daily which helps with the sex side - I don't know if it is available over here, or if so whether it would be OK for your particular circumstances.

Can in ask if get the alfuzosin in UK as thats where i live,or if you know.I think my dose tamsulosin is too strong for me at moment 400microgram so any tablets similar which offer lower doses should be helpful hopefully.

Uk - yes. It was recommended to my GP by a Consultant to whom I mentioned my "dry firing" during sexual activity. He said the Alfuzosion would help with that; and indeed it does.

My tamsulosin prescription was for 400 mcg, one daily, any change in your dosage would depend on your particular urinary condition - anyway unless contra-indicated for any reason by your medical records, try to get a trial of the Alfuzosin for at least a month.

Yes thats same dose as me ,Tamsulosin and get realy bad headache,and dry strange ejaculation.They also seem to slow me alittle and make slightly drowsy. The flow urine little better also..

I will ask him to consider as i feel important to ones esteem to keep active as long as possible and not to feel too old before absolute necessity.I realise one has to get old and give up things but i also feel important not just to give things up unnecessarily.

Try Alfuzosin instead. I get conventional ejaculation using it, recommended by a Hospital Doctor.
