Adult Shang Ring Circumcision

Hi - I’ve seen some posts discussing circumcisions on here and I’m just wondering if anyone used the Shang ring method?

I am a 33yo male and I had this type of circumcision performed a week ago due to phimosis. Today I had my follow-up and had the ring removed. However, to my surprise - even before I had my pants pulled down, the doc told me I would need to get a few small dissolvable stitches to keep everything together once the ring came off...?

This is where I’m confused - I thought that the whole purpose of the Shang ring was so sutures were not needed (I even checked docs website which advertises Shang ring and lists ‘no stitching required’ as being one of the benefits of using this method!!)

The more I think about it now, the more I’m becoming annoyed, at myself mostly, for not making a fuss when it was happening (I think I went in to shock to be honest!) but also as I’m on day 8 of recovery but i feel like I’ve been kicked back to day 1 as I’ve seen a lot of posts online about how bad the stitches can be in the first week or 2 before they begin to fall out :(

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks - nothing in You comment really answered my question but for the record - I tried “jelqing” (what stretching the skin used to be called back in the day) with no substantial change; I also had a procedure to cut the frenulum (which also made no difference) before having a preputioplasty done two years ago (made a difference but still too uncomfortable). I mention all of this as I believe you’re insinuation is that the circ was some last minute, off the cuff decision I made - I assure you it wasn’t and I tried to avoid it for the longest time. I also assume from your comments however that you’re not someone who’s ever actually to deal with phimosis and where the foreskin was torn and bleeding after sex...?

But anywAy, thanks again for the comment!

Hi!

I had a Shang ring circumcision too.

I did not have stitches, but the healing was quite slow and at the frenulum place the wound opened by itself and now at this place the scar is larger. With one or two stitches there the scar would have looked better.

Honestly, some stitches is not a big deal. I’m very happy with my cut since enough skin was removed and the scar line is very straight (but maybe a little bit wider than traditional circumcisions).

Wish you a good healing!

Thanks for replying mate. Sorry to hear you had issues. I guess maybe the stitches are good to have as insurance then.

It’s been over a day now since I had them put in and I’ve not experienced any new pain than before which is good also - hopefully it’s all uphill from here :)

Me neither although from another comment, I think maybe he done it ‘just in case’... No undoing it now I guess - it is what it is!

Thanks for taking the time to respond mate!
