So I'm at an age when my stream is sometimes pretty weak when I pee and get an occasional dribble afterwards. Of course I also need to get up and pee in the night, just once so far.Any tips to keep my prostate healthy and working?

Keep active and not overweight.

Have a healthy diet including nuts especially brazil and almonds.

Take saw palmetto extract.

Ejaculate regularly.

Talk to your doctor. Get examined and a PSA test.

Yes, I agree with xsevenx, ( though Saw Palmetto did nothing for me). But go to the drs and get a PSA test. When you do go, go prepared with a view on a) how often you pee, b) how much you pee (yes, measure it), c) how many times you pee in the night,d) how long has it been (if like me it took a while to notice try and remember), E) do you suffer from urgency?

Because when you see the doc they'll ask you these questions and tell you to go and keep a diary or some other cobblers. So beat them to it.

Then your options are drugs to relax your bladder muscles, sounds odd but they work for a while , and/or various types of operation. My advice on that is to do your research, and if you go down that route get your gp to refer you to a hospital which offers many types of ops.

But, get the PSA test.

Agree with all said here. PSA numbers are key - all men should check these periodically and track their numbers - I actually tape mine to the back of my driver's licence. I could not tolerate the medication that is supposed to loosen (wrong word but you get the idea) the prostate to achieve better flow. I had the Urolift procedure done in London that does not have side effects - best decision ever as the previous 2x dilatation did nothing for me other than bleeding and a bit of pain afterwards and I refused to do TURP or the other procedures that can cause ED.

Good luck! And do your homework on the Urologist. If you are in London, try to see Mr Barber at the London Clinic.

Yes, choose your hospital/urologist and do your homework on the procedures. But big warning... If your prostate is too big there are some they can't do. This was my situation having been left on tamsulosin/flomax for ages and you never really notice if it's getting worse as degradation is very slow. And as far as the GP is concerned no news is good news so they don't check. That said I had a turp and it was life changing. So much better now.

Last point, tell the Dr you're losing sleep, this I think is a pressure point for them.

Thaks for the advice guys. I suppose the GP is an obvious one but it took me 5years to go see about my phimosis and that ended in circumcision.I do eat healthy and I'm not overweight, but probably drink too much which I don't think helps.

Will start keeping a diary though to be ready cause I know when you get asked something at the doctors your brain immediately empties

You will probably find that most GPs will want to do an internal prostate examination so be prepared for a gloved and lubed finger paying you a visit!

That's maybe why I've been putting it off.

We men can be whimps about medical issues. Think about what most women have to put up with!!

True. I regret waiting so long to get my phimosis seen to and the visit to the doc was nothing at the end of the day

Honestly it’s no big deal having the finger exam.

You're right I think it's just an idea in one's head

Good advice so far, the only thing I can add is to keep a eye on your coffee intake

Thanks I do like a strong espresso but only one a day

Thanks man. I'm due a yearly health check soon so will find out then. I'm familiar with Tonkat Ali as a body building supplement and erection aid, but not as a help for prostate.

Always try and eat healthy, maybe a little bit too much alcohol

It's great that you're proactive about maintaining your prostate health! Here are some tips to support your prostate as you age:

Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help flush out toxins and keep your urinary system functioning well.

Eat a Healthy Diet: Incorporate foods rich in antioxidants, such as fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Include sources of omega-3 fatty acids like fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts, which may help reduce inflammation.

Limit Alcohol and Caffeine: Excessive alcohol and caffeine consumption can irritate the bladder and exacerbate urinary symptoms.

Stay Active: Regular exercise can promote prostate health by improving blood flow and reducing inflammation. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise most days of the week.

Maintain a Healthy Weight: Obesity has been linked to an increased risk of prostate issues, so aim to maintain a healthy weight through a balanced diet and regular exercise.

Consider Supplements: Certain supplements, such as saw palmetto, beta-sitosterol, and pygeum, have been studied for their potential benefits in supporting prostate health. Consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplements.

Regular Check-ups: Make sure to schedule regular check-ups with your healthcare provider, especially as you age, to monitor your prostate health and address any concerns early on.
