Hi all, I've read many of the blogs which helped a lot and thought I would like to help others. I am 63 years old and 5 hours ago I had a circumcision under a local anesthetic. This due to my yeast infection, which then led to phimosis. Many men who have done this were much young than me, so I hope my story will encourage others of the older generation.
I told the doctor I was nervous about this and that the only other surgery I ever had was a vasectomy 15 years earlier. (now that's some coincidence, both around the same area!) I asked about General anesthetic, but the doctor said local would be fine. I'd had my vasectomy under local and it was no problem, but this was different. However, he did give me some sedatives to take before the op.
So I got to the hospital this morning and took sedative called Dormicum/Midazolam. I was very happy about this as I'd heard this will put you to sleep. However, I was laying on the hospital bed 30 minutes after taking the tablet, still feeling wide awake and very worried. Asking if I could have a general anesthetic, but the doctor said this would be a problem now as not arranged. He said just wait a bit. I must have crashed out not long after that, and woke up some 2-3 hours later remembering absolutely nothing. That was good!! However, my penis was really hurting and I was rolling around on the hospital bed. A nurse came over and I told her, and she gave me two pain relievers, one orally and one by injection. Soon the pain subsided. I felt a little wobbly, but OK. I went for a coffee to wake me up, then got a taxi home.
