After circumcision help please

Hi,

I had my circumcision on May 18th so it has now been 4 weeks exactly and I haven’t had any follow up appointment as the doctor that did the surgery never told me I needed one. So after speaking with others who told me he should have, I called his office and made one. It hasn’t come up yet but I wanted to ask if others can tell me if my healing process is considered normal.

It isn’t swollen or bleeding anymore but near the glans there’s this ring of swollen skin that circles around. I attached pictures of every angle. The right side seems not as bad but left side is twice the size. The stitches also haven’t fallen out which can be discomforting at times. I went to the family doctor and he said it still seems to be swollen there and we have to wait until it’s healed to tell how much skin will still come forward, he said some doctors who do the surgery leave a tiny bit skin so stiching is easier and there isn’t a super tightness after the procedure.

Can anyone please take a look and let me know based on their experience. I would really appreciate it. Thank you

The top left image is the left angel. The top right image is the right angel. The bottom image is the top angle.

Thank you again.

Looks ok to me. Swelling is completely normal. It looks to be healing nicely. One thing I’d suggest is to get your stitches pulled out to speed up the healing process. Two weeks is all the stitches need and after that they are no longer needed

Thank you for your response. Will pulling the stitches hurt? I already had a bad experience, when I first got my procedure, he said if there’s a lot of bleeding call me, so 1-2 hours I got home noticed there was more than a little. After calling he said come back and I did and he said my bottom stitches seem like it fallen off, he’s like I’ll just have to put a new one, and he went ahead and did it without any warning or any numbing.

When I go to my appointment I can ask him about the pulling though.

What about the left side being so fat is that normal?

Getting the stitches pulled out does not hurt but it’s a little uncomfortable (before you let the doctor take them out try, very carefully to move the stitches around a bit to loosen them).

And I had severe swelling on the left side, actually quite worse than yours but it has settled down nicely and looks great now

Okay thanks for the tip, I’m going to my appointment on this coming Friday so will ask.

How long did it take for everything to be okay for you?

in reply toJoesph

About a 7 weeks after. I still have a small bit of swelling around the frenulum area but I’ve been told that it will go down eventually.

Okay thanks. It’s been slightly itchy where the stitches are. Is that normal?

in reply toJoesph

Yup it’s normal. I had a case of the itches too lol it will go away eventually

My follow up appointment was eight weeks, and like you I visited the Family GP in between for reassurance, who said all fine. I had dis-solvable stitches which where gone after a week. Overall everything appears normal but you do need to have those stitches removed. If you where not happy with the way your Surgeon put them in then consider asking if the practice Nurse can remove ?

Thanks for your reply. Do my stitches do not look like the dissolved kind? Because that’s what I was told they will fall out or dissolve in a few weeks but been 4 and still nothing.

If they are dis-solvable then they should be out by now. Have you tried soaking them and perhaps a 'swish' around under the water ? This should help.

Yeah I did that for a while it didn’t really make any difference so I stopped. I heard it’s good for salt water? Is that true? I mixed table salt and water in a glass and tried to soak in it daily for the first week or two

Yes that is fine. Just wash the glass afterwards ! LoL

Seriously though, all should be fine.
