Hi,

If this is a flexible cystoscopy, then my experience is that it isn't painful, but slightly uncomfortable. A local anaesthetic will be used, and you may experience slight bleeding and soreness when you urinate afterwards, but that ought to resolve itself after a few hours.

Please feel free to message me should you wish to chat further.

All good wishes and kindest regards,

SetteeSofa :)

Yes, I agree, it's just uncomfortable. Also it's all over pretty quickly. They told me to wiggle my toes as much as I could to distract myself from thinking about it. That worked. As per any medical procedure you may find there's more people than just the Dr in there, this didn't bother me, but it might bother some. I've had two of these...

Hi Omniscient1,

Thanks for your comment, and thanks too for making the very pertinent point about others being in the room with the doctor and nurses.

I've never heard about the 'wiggling toes' method of distraction, but if it works then that's great. I enjoy watching the screen and asking the doctor questions, and most of them have been only too happy to chat and explain what's going on. It's fascinating stuff.

Hopefully JMW72 will gain some reassurance from these responses.

All good wishes and kindest regards as ever,

Settee Sofa :)

It's just a bit undignified! (But a lot less than women have to endure!)

Not painful at all - and usually over quite quickly. If you can see the monitor they use, it is quite interesting (may be even more distracting than wiggling your toes!).

Hi beardy_chris.

Many thanks for your comment. Agreed - it's fascinating, and if the surgeon (all mine have been surgeons) is amenable it's educational as well. This may sound slightly perverse, but from that perspective I do enjoy the procedure. Likewise with my colon and sigmoidoscopies. I've been 'scoped' once a year for the former since 2012, and am quite relaxed with the procedure. I take your point about others being in the room. Only on one occasion have I been asked if I minded three students watching - which of course I was more than happy to agree to - before realising that the three students were 20/21 years old girls/ladies. That was slightly embarrassing, but people have to learn, so it's no time for unnecessary modesty.

Keep well, stay safe and all good wishes as ever,

SetteeSofa :)

Just had one last month, the lube has desensitising agents in it ... really was not bad at all. And whilst some have minimal bleeding, I had none. Quick and easy, just a bit of a weird feeling but no pain.
