The strangest affliction I have ever endured or even heard of before...

It began about three years ago, and as I write it's approaching midnight after a full day of periodic episodes from the time I woke up before getting dressed this morning. This has always been the case; and until I have another night's sleep it's likely to occur again. However, it first began when I was travelling in the back of my eldest daughter's car.

Here's what happens -

I become very dizzy at first, almost to the point of passing out, but never have yet. This is followed by a sensation of increasingly deep heat which flows down my body to the groin where it stops and almost burns, so intense is the heat. Briefly it makes me want to urinate, but then the sensation turns into nausea. I have only once been compelled to actually vomit. At all other times I have learnt to 'swallow it back' until the need to be sick subsides. With the sensation of heat still present, this then flows to my cheeks as if I'm blushing. At first I asked my wife if I was really blushing but she said "No."

Of course, I visited my GP. But she had never come across anything like this - and referred me to a specialist. After giving me a very thorough head-to-toe examination. she too was nonplussed. I am now under her care - and yet to be given any positive help to address this frightening affliction of mine.

If I ever do actually pass out, what would be the consequences? Has anyone else suffered this or heard of another with the same symptoms, male or female?

So no replies. I must assume that no-one has experienced anything like this. It leaves me to assume I'm alone, which is incredible.

Dear Christopher

how old are you? I'm not aware of any pathology connected with your symptoms. The only thing it reminds me is menopause, but the concept of andropause is very discussed, if it just exist or not, and it is anyway assumed to proceed slowly, without any major symptoms. Maybe an endocrinologic check out could be useful. Another thing you remind me is a panick attack. Could your feelings be linked to some psychological anxiety?

Anyway, stay checked by your doctor and follow her advice.

Nick, thank you very much for your lone response. It's no wonder that others haven't replied, but at least you have endeavoured to help. I'm in my early 70s.

Endocrinologic tests largely focus on female reproduction matters. Though the specialist to which my GP referred me, DID test for ED and prostate gland issues. Impotence is NOT a problem despite my age and the fact that I was circumcised as an adult. [She told me that Impotence in circumcised men can be an issue later in life]. My prostate was slightly enlarged but was told it was manageable.

My next appointment with her is 31st January.

I didn't answer your panic attack suggestion. Answer - no, nothing like it. These require a trigger. Nothing triggers my affliction.
