ANyone taking Prolia for osteoporosis?

Hi! I have been dealing with osteoporosis for more than 20 years and taken all the pills and Forteo shots. I have Lupus, Hyperparathyroidisn, Low Vitamin D and low body mass that all contribute to the problem. Unfortunately, it has continues to get worse. I have been hesitant to take Prolia as it will be in the body for 6 months and if I react, that is concerning. I had trouble with Forteo. All of my doctors feel that at this point, i really need to take it. i would appreciate any input.

Healing hugs.

My husband was on it - like his mother, if there was something to react to, he would. And didn't appear to!

There are several on the PMRGCAuk forum who are on Prolia/denosumab.

Hi Pumpkin2009,

I have been on Prolia for some years. Before that I had Zaledronate infusions yearly. About the third time I had it I had bad joint pains but luckily fairly short lived. The nurse suggested I then had it in my arm the next time (instead of my stomach) and I’ve not had trouble since. I like you am underweight and wondered if the paucity of fat on my stomach caused a problem or perhaps just a coincidence. I have UCTD with bad Scleroderma gut problems. I expect you take vitamin D3 as that is important. Also they should always do a blood test for calcium and vit d levels just before the injection.

Hope it goes well

Thank you for responding. I plan to get it in my arm. I take limited Vitamin D3 because my other VitaminD level is too high. Again I really appreciate you sharing your experience.

Healing hugs.

Thanks for responding. I took that as long as allowed and it didn't work.
