Anyone tried Gabapentin for pain?

I have tried various painkillers and can’t take them - they make me vomit. I have just been given Gabapentin to try just wondering how anyone has got on with them.

A lot of people find it helps. You need to start with a small dose and work your way up to the full dose.

I'm afraid I didn't get far on it because I started to hallucinate. They were quite amusing but I stopped taking it quickly, in case I got to the point where I didn't realise they were hallucinations.

On the positive side, I have a very sensitive stomach but could tolerate them well otherwise.

Thank You 😊. Yes my stomach is very sensitive too - I’ve come off a lot of meds because of it. I will give them a try x

I did but is not working for me. Even with lyrica more expensive med is not working. I tried percocet is not working either. So doctor put me bad on prednisone 20 mg it helps me..as I’m trying to get better without using it anymore if I continue eating more vegetables or drink daily raw veggie juice

My dog has been on gabapentin since the New Year. He's also been on Amantadine (with very good results) which is known to make the gabapentin much more effective. Both of these are human drugs so I'm not sure why this combo isn't readily offered to people unless it's a cost issue as I've been paying £88 pcm for the Amantadine alone. Perhaps it's a conversation to have with your GP?

If it’s for nerve pain it works for some. Me - so zonked I ran into a glass door lol. I take Tramadol during the day for joint pain and for my nerve pain at night Elavil. Low doses act like a “pain killer” even tho it’s an antidepressant. It’s not, however, addictive. If you have difficulty with pain and sleeping issues, I would recommend you inquire about it.

As for feeling sick to your stomach, very common especially in the opioid class. Best advice avoid them or ask your doc for an anti nausea med to take with it.

I started them a while ago for my vascular pain. I started on 3 a day but they didn't help so went onto 6 a day. It made a huge difference especially to my positional headaches and hands. I'm usually very sensitive to any kind of medicine and tend to have bad reactions, The Gabapentin hasn't been one of them for me. Hopefully this continues as I'm now starting on 9 a day due to a flare. Lot's of luck and I really hope they help you xx
