A rather personal question today but if I can't ask it here then I'm not sure where I can.
I currently have m=Merina coil fitted that is coming up to its 5 year life. I wondered what other medications etc Lupus patients have been recommended please.
Thanks.

Hi. Your best option would be to have another mirena inserted, however there are alternatives providing you don't have antiphospholipid antibodies or clotting issues but it is very dependent on your medical history. Your doctor or family planning nurse will need to give you advice about this.
Note my diagnosis is Stills Disease which for me manifests as RD.I used a regular coil for years without problem.
I also used the vault diaphragm which was fine and prior to that I was on the pill for years, had two sons and continued on the mini pill whilst breast feeding.
My first husband had a vasectomy when required as did my second husband when I developed Interstitial Cystitis and Lichen Sclerosis.Iβm 60 now and on HRT Everol conti patches and I note in the patient information leaflet that it may not be recommended for lupus sufferers. Given the hormone link between HRT and contraception this may be useful for you to know.
I was told after I had my last child if the coil (Mirena) worked well with my lupus then stick with it! That was advice from both gynaecologists and rheumatology when I was discussing contraception after my second child.
Obviously if you have other reasons for not wanting to continue with the coil this isnβt going to help with your question!
