So my recovery from surgery was ticking along nicely..... I was gaining more mobility and finally getting out for some fresh air on a hired mobility scooter.
Rewind to Thurs afternoon when the twinges and an incling a uti was brewing started.
Contacted gp Friday morning and had antibiotics by dinnertime ๐
Saturday morning the vomiting started and after ringing NHS111 in the evening they sent me to A&E at midnight.
8 hrs later ...yes 8 hrs sat on a hard plastic chair with a boot on I was seen and taken to SDEC ( same day emergency care) to be told I was in retention.
So I'm now in my 2nd hospital bed in 6 wks (to the day) on iv antibiotics and fluids with a catheter. ๐ plan is for a kidney scan today.
And they've doubled my prednisone ๐ซ
Is the severity of this uti a consequence of the meds changes needed for my surgery , taking the tacrolimus which comes with an increased risk of utis or my lupus nephritis? Who knows ๐คทโโ๏ธ
At least I have a view ......
Keep smiling ...I'm trying too ๐

I am so pleased that you are finally comfortable and adequately medicated. You are where you need to be lovely after an horrendous weekend. I hope the kidney scan is ok and that on the increased pred and IV antibiotics you will soon be feeling so much better. Xxx
Ah. We all know the โjoysโ of a chronic condition. How it can bring on other things. Sometimes a UTI can make you feel more ill than having an RA flare. I had a bad UTI at Christmas. Of all the days you want to feel โnormalโ. Iโm awful when iโm not well. A real moany cow. Thatโs when i love to be alone. In my own bed. I always say this. With a big bowl of steaming hot soup, a hot cuppa & something funny on my tablet. Nice view from your hospital bed. When i was first diagnosed, so many yrs ago. I was taken in for tests. I was in nearly a week & a woman wouldnโt stop snoring. I was going mad. I know it was naughty. But i was throwing grapes at her!! I just couldnโt sleep! I hope you havenโt got a snorer. Hope you get well soon. When you get out. Spoil yourself. Get some nice creamy eclairs. They always cheer me up!
Thank you vixen. Oh no Christmas day of all days.Unfortunately hugo doesn't allow me much bed rest and I'm lactose intolerant so the delicious eclairs are out but I'm happy in the chair beside the fire with my crochet and a homemade brownie.
Haha I can just the domestic wondering why all the grapes are on the floor ๐.
Im the only one in my bay under 80 but all the ladies are lovely and will have a chat but I've been in wards with disruptive dementia patients so I get where you are coming from. X
So sorry you are going through this, you definitely have a nice view and if the other patients are nice thatโs a bonus, Iโve had some real weird neighbours as hospital patients I can tell you, good job nobody brings me grapes! Iโm having problems with my kidneys now but I havenโt seen anyone yet. Iโm still waiting for RTX infusion but itโs a long wait. Hope youโre feeling a bit better soon, Iโve had a catheter it itโs a tad uncomfortable, especially after a couple of weeks so hope you get something done.
Hi Wendy.yes i am thank you. yes catheter isn't the most comfortable is it. I had 2 choices ...stay with catheter and have iv meds or go home on oral meds with Catheter for a week and await Urology. I chose the Iv meds. Just had kidney scan .I hope you get get appointment soon and things improve. They are going to give me a trial without it and send me home on oral meds if its OK. X
Oh I am so sorry. Blimey, the deep joys of this illness just can't be underestimated. You chose wisely to stay in the hospital - they will hopefully get everything done in quick time to ensure they can get you home. Fingers crossed re the kidney scan- do let us know how it goes when you feel able. xx
Thank you Rosie. I had 2 choices to stay in on iv antibiotics fluids and the catheter or go home with oral meds and a catheter and waiting for Urology. Had scan this morning all ok no blockages or infection in it. In 1996 I was diagnosed with a duplex r kidney but my nephrolgist dismissed it in 2018 only for them to pick it up this morning.
Bladder scan showed i had 450ml left later passed 500 then another scan afterwards showed I still had 741 ml ๐ฑ Going to trial me without catheter and if ok I can go home on oral meds depending on blood and urine culture results tomorrow. X
Son said Hugo isn't stressing too much but he will go bonkers when I go home and won't let me out of his sight.im due to have a neighbours dog Fri to Mon too. A duplex kidney is when there are 2 drainage tubes .mine are fused together so it doesnt drain as efficiently as it should. Having said that it rarely gives me any trouble x
So sorry to hear about this latest set-back and hope that you soon start to feel much more yourself. Glad that there was no blockage or infection, fingers crossed for tests being ok so they will let you go home tomorrow! Nice sunny view though - took a lot longer for it to clear here, but now blue and breezy, so my washing is out (had a B12 this morning, then a doze, so now a bit more human!). Thinking of you xx
Thank you bookish. I have my b12 next Monday. They've turned the valve off on the catheter so see what happens now.I'm still on iv Gentamicin and co amoxiclav . I have no intentions of a hat trick of beds .Good luck with the washing xx
Iโm so sorry SML. Itโs miserable to be in hospital and messing up your regular lupus schedule๐๐คฆโโ๏ธ Prayers for you to get out, get up, get going! MM
Hi Spanielmadlady, hoping you are being well looked after and they treat the cause of all the pain you have been recieving. Sounds like you are going through the wars.
Morning stills. Not bad is it. I'm In a 6 bed bay looking out towards the lakeland fells.Food has been poor for diary free. No lactose free milk at breakfast yesterday so had to get some from home last night. Lunch was a small square of pie and a couple of ginger nuts .
OMG. Lovely view - that's all I got! Everyone knows way more than me, so it's all been said. Get outta there soon. Here's another smart ass answer - there's a planet party tonight after sunset and you won't even need binoculars to see most of them. I am so very sorry to hear of your hospitalisation and I hope you recover very quickly and well so that you can leave your second home. Namaste Karen xx
Thanks Cavendish. Not bad is it....lakeland fells in the distance .better than a brick wall which ive had before. I have no intention of making it a hatrick lol. I used to work in end stage dementia and when it was a full moon they all seemed to be climbing the walls so fingers crossed this rare alignment doesn't cause any issues for anyone. SML xx
Aww Bless you. Personally I love a good howl at the moon. Are you allowed any "visitors?" ๐ถ๐๐โ๐ฆบ๐ฆฎ. Could that gorgeous hunk of spaniel be an "assistance" dog? I can just see it now. Take care. I hope you make it home real soon ๐
Adding my best wishes. I hope you are soon back at home where you will feel more comfortable. Getting into your own bed in your own home will do you the world of good. x
so sorry to hear about your woes you brave lady, and that you have manages to keep your sense of humour. Hope you are sorted out soon and can get back home.
Sorry to hear you've bern so poorly, that eight hour plastic chair sit would not have helped!! Hope you're feeling better soon and the scan is favourable!
