Lupus/APS and cod liver oil

Hi, I'm 49, and have lupus with antiphospholipid syndrome. I'm currently on lifelong warfarin, statins, vit D, hydroxychloroquine and methotrexate injections. The inflammatory arthritis is very painful, would cod liver oil be safe to take with anticoagulants? I think the oil would help with the inflammation. Many thanks

Not without adjusting dose with frequent INR tests. Always talk to your hematology department before adding any supplements, diet changes, meds or even exercise changes.

Hi Roarah,

I would take care in adding anything to the mix without discussing with your Rheumy and Hematologist. I currently take methotrexate and hydroxy for SLE, Amatriptyline, vitamin D and anti-inflammatories for osteoarthritis. I have taken cod liver oil in the past with some benefit to my knees and no bad effect to my medication.

Good luck with finding what works for you. Take care Nicky
