My nails are very weak have black/reddish lines and grooves on and them
I do suffer Reynard's
I also suffer from joint pain and fatigue this have been the case for about a year now I have had blood tests for Artists and Gout but all have come back negative
I would love to wear false nails again but scared I would do more damage and I worry about the Acetone they use ?
Please have you any advice ?

These could be splinter hemorrhages. They can be seen with APS ( anti phospholipid Syndrome), which can sometimes travel together with lupus, or stand alone on its own as an Auto immune Disease in the “lupus family” of connective tissue diseases.
There can be other causes for these splinter hemorrhages, such as certain cardiac conditions.
( I’m not sure how common that is... )
Have a look google for splinter hemorrhage- she if photos match.
Yes I get splint hemorrhages lots. Not diagnosed with APS though... although I do have other symptoms. My rheumy is aware anyway. He said it connected with my almost non existent Complement 4 blood level.. something to do with the bodynot being able to get rid of toxins or something. Can't remember. Anyway, Nails 0054, I would definitely leave finger nails alone to breath as they need to. Very important. Give them some love and attention... not cover them up any more. That's my advice anyway. Hope you get some support soon with all this. D
Hi I had false nails for couple of years and they absolutely ruined my nails underneath it took a good 2 years for the nails to recover so just have my natural nails now and also the stuff they use to get them off is so strong- really dries the nails out x
I used to go to a chines nail bar they completely ruined my nails
But over the year of me not going I went to a salon and had Gels which was great but now I have a reaction to the Acetone ? ( I am also allergic to Perfumes )
I have not been to the salon for 4 months now and been using Fungal gel to try and repair and get rid of the ridges and marks not sure if its working ?
I don’t think false nails are good for nails anyway but with problems, personally I’d suggest not wearing them and they will only make your nails weaker, plus you can’t see what’s going on with them under falsies .
Hope things get back to some normality when this virus goes and you can get checked
I have lupus and I have weak nails that have grooves and patterns on them, and they break easily, sometimes in layers, sometimes in patches, other times in a linear manner that leaves the skin under the nail sore and hurt. No purplish discolouration tho. When it first started it really really made me uncomfortable, I love pretty nails. So i took to trying a number of things. I tried different types of nail varnish, didn't help. Then I tried doing the gel thing, it looked so pretty, but it hurt my nails more when the gel 'fell off' my nails. I also tried false nails, looked very pretty and I enjoyed having them, till they started falling off with layers and chunks of my nails attached to them. That was 2 months ago. Now I am trying to reduce the amount of product I put on my nails, and just leaving them open more, it is really helping, the most unhealthy part is slowly growing out. They aren't perfect, but they are not traumatising me either. I have also found that keeping my nails short helps, not sure if it is true or it is just in my head.
My advice is until you can get professional assessment, don't try new things. Just keep the nails clean, dry and aerated.
