Hello lovely Lupies. Lots of us are struggling at the moment so I thought you might like to see how my Finlay returned from his Saturday field trip with the wonderful dog walker and his fur pals.

In fairness the dog walker did send us a video before they left for home so we had the towels over the floor and the bath running ready.๐Ÿซฃ๐Ÿ’ฉ๐Ÿ›โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

I hope it gives you a laugh and that life starts to improve for us soon ๐Ÿ˜˜

Yes he is very curly at the moment after a dreadful groom in November I am trying to grow it out so that the new groomer has a chance to make him look like a cocker rather than a skinned rabbit. He makes me smile every day and that has been impossible for anyone else this past year xx

Obviously a before "Crufts" photo, although I would've awarded best in breed for wearing mud. He's still gorgeous and looks so happy. Bet the after match bath was good too. Bet it didn't slow him down though. Beautiful spaniel. Thanks for sharing. He's a beauty, mud and all. Have a good day ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you so much. He is a real goofball, so soft and cuddly. He loves the other dogs, especially the Dog de Bordeaux Pumba, Alsatian River and a Labrador named Gwen . He is however lead reactive and a nightmare on a lead so the free running dog walker who does twice monthly field trips is perfect for him. He wasnโ€™t impressed with his bath but he looks and smells much better now, well he wasnโ€™t impressed but he has gone out with the dog walker again this morning ๐Ÿซฃ xx

Need to teach that dog "actions and consequences" Good luck with that - he is a spaniel. You can't be cross - he's living his best life thanks to you. "He's just a teenage dirt bag baby!" ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต It was a great song me and my sons used to sing. Not sure they'd do it now in their 30's. Just think we should all be more Finlay. ๐Ÿ™ bending old ladies this morning - me included - teaching yoga ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ and on repeat again this afternoon with another class ๐Ÿ˜ญEnjoy the boy - you're welcome. No extra charge for poetry about Finlay (say it Finlee). ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜‰

Ha ha no chance. I remember Wheatus well. When my husband graduated as a social worker..a mature student, they were playing at the University ball.

Can you bend legs that are as stiff as a poker? Mine is excruciatingly painful for 14 months now and getting up stairs is so bad and hazardous I am needing a stair lift. The cause is still unknown but the latest theory is that it is deferred from the spine..who knows. My physio today, dealing with my hypertonic pelvic floor said that yoga might help me eventually but currently my pain levels are prohibitive. God old age is no damned fun is it. Oh to run like Finlay ๐Ÿ˜ซ xx

CavendishCool profile image
CavendishCoolโ€ข in reply toCecilyParsley

I think your physio is right, but yoga has been my saviour since my back surgery in 2018. I think you could work towards it, but it's finding the right class and the right teacher for you. I bend even more old ladies tomorrow, my oldest is 92. We do chair yoga, which I love. Remember Finlay has 4 legs - you've got 2. You can only do what you can do. Stair lift or not. If you need it, then use it. My current plan is that if I keep very busy and ignore the fact that I have Lupus. Malar rash, all in my mind, sore mouth, dry eyes, painful legs, nothing to see here. I'm taking the approach that most doctors take and working on the theory that it's all in my head. Seems to work for them. I'll let you know how it's working out for me. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ™

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsleyโ€ข in reply toCavendishCool

I love your sense of humour. I have lost mine. It disappeared when my leg became so painful it made me scream when bending it. My other stuff nasal, oral genital sores, severe osteoarthritis of the knees with a loose knee cap that dislocates, pernicious anaemia, the constipation, Underactive thyroid, rectal pain and bleeding, bladder that will not empty are less painful combined that my leg so much so that I yelled at my Rheumatologist take it off I cannot bare it anymore. I am at a loss as to what to do about it, sadly I cannot ignore it as it stops me walking, sitting, standing and anything functional xx

I cannot possibly understand how your life must be and feel. All I have left is what my husband calls my ironic sarcasm or sarcastic irony - you choose. I get it from my father who by the time he was diagnosed with bowel cancer which we diagnosed several months earlier by ourselves died within 8 weeks after his emergency surgery. I get so frustrated, upset, tired by all of our experiences with auto immune whatevers, that I just can't fight some days so my ironic sarcasm kicks in and gets me through the next however long together with the lovely Finlay and all the other posted photos of dogs, et al that takes me away from what is the reality of our collective lives. I hope with all my heart that you can get some sort of help/relief from what must be just awful. If only I had that magic wand.......

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsleyโ€ข in reply toCavendishCool

I do understand, I find humour helpful too just struggling to find it currently. There are plenty worse off than me I know which makes me feel guilty but our limits arenโ€™t boundless are they we are human. You keep on doing your ironic sarcasm if it helps you through. Finlay and Skye make life worthwhile for me, they bring me joy and comfort. I love them dearly.

A magic wand or a Lotto win for specialist care would be so wonderful for all of us wouldnโ€™t itโ€™?

Keep laughing and doing the yoga, maybe down the line I may be able to do chair yoga too ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿปxx

Is Skye a fan of mud?

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsleyโ€ข in reply toCavendishCool

Absolutely but not as bad as Finlay. He doesnโ€™t go on the field trips as he is younger less confident and gets knocked by bigger boisterous dogs but he goes out on the mountain and river runs three times a week with Finlay

Another gorgeous one. It's lovely they have their separate activities and together ones, both involving mud by the looks of it ๐Ÿ˜€

CecilyParsleyโ€ข in reply toCavendishCool

Skye has such short legs for a cocker spaniel and although he loves Finlay he is wary of other dogs whereas Finlay loves them. Both love the water and especially muddy water. Just hoping and praying Skye does not have hip dysplasia. He goes for his castration on 25th and will have an x Ray under general anaesthetic bless him ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿปโค๏ธ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

Aww, little love. I will keep my fingers crossed for Skye. ๐Ÿคžโค๏ธ

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsleyโ€ข in reply toCavendishCool

Thank you I am really worried for him poor boy . The Orthopaedic vet said it was nit classic hip dysplasia but he does not have the flexibility in his back legs expected for such a young dog and he should not be experiencing pain so there is an issue and the sooner it can be diagnosed and treated the better xx

CavendishCool profile image
CavendishCoolโ€ข in reply toCecilyParsley

Yes. I know what you mean. Our final Spaniel did one of the worst injuries when bombing along - her crushiat knee at 9 months and the vet said he was not happy doing that sort of operation on such a young dog, so we followed orthopaedic advice which was awful at the time - no taking out for walks for 6 weeks; then gentle 5 minute walks, etc - you get the picture until the injury began to heal enough for her to have the operation, hopefully not, a bit older. It was really hard for months, she did not need the operation, her being so young meant that she healed better than an older dog. It was kept under control by frequent observation, good pain medication (whilst it was going on). In her later years, she did have arthritis which we managed through pain medication and hydrotherapy. The hydrotherapy helped far more than I could imagine tbh. She was 15 1/2 when we lost her 3 years ago. I think if you have a great vet that you can trust, then that's a huge help. The rest you're already doing. Bucket loads of love. I'm sending you all lots of love for everyone's pain manageability at this time and to be pain free in the future. Namaste ๐Ÿ™ xx

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsleyโ€ข in reply toCavendishCool

That is amazing that your girl did not need surgery. I truly hope it is something similar with Skye but I really feel it is his hips. My friend has a Great Dane mastiff cross who goes to a physiotherapy centre and she has hydrotherapy and it does her more good than any pain medication. You must miss your girl terribly? Thank you for your kindness. Much love back to you xx

CavendishCool profile image
CavendishCoolโ€ข in reply toCecilyParsley

I was very impressed with hydrotherapy which meant we could cut down on the Metacam and I know this sounds a bit silly, but it really was very good for her doggy mental health. I do miss her and her lil dog brother terribly, but I feast on all the photos that are posted here and other places. I can't easily have another dog as my caring duties to my brother who has cognitive disabilities have become more diverse since the deaths of my parents and having no other siblings, but I've had so many loving years from dogs and in my early married days, puss-tats too. ๐Ÿ™โค๏ธ Just about to bend this mornings paying victims in Chair Yoga ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜Š

Enjoy the bending xx

Sorry Iโ€™m late seeing your post Cecily, but Finlay did make me laugh - a real mucky pup!! ๐Ÿ˜‚ But what a lucky boy he is to have such a lovely Mum and Dad who allow him to enjoy himself like that. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Our neighbour has a Labrapoo named Dexter who hardly sees the light of day. When he is out he is always on the lead despite them having literally a couple of acres of ground. They have 2 children aged about 9 and 11 yet I never see them out playing with him. It is so sad. Dexter would love โ€™parentsโ€˜ like you and your hubby.

Looking forward to hearing what else Finlay gets up to. I hope he enjoyed his bath as much as the mud. ๐Ÿ˜‰ xxx

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsleyโ€ข in reply toSpotty-ewe

Oh thank OU you are so kind. I always feel so guilty that I can no longer walk Finlay and Skye. I worry that they would be better off with an active family. But they are so very much loved, spoiled. I sit and play with them, have stimulation puzzles. Lick mats etc. Neil takes them out individually on the lead twice daily and three times a week they run with a pack of other dogs on the mountain or by the river or lake for 1 1/2 hours then Finlay goes on a field trip every other Saturday for four hours to a secure field.

We are so worried about Skye, he is only a year old but very weak on his back end. He whimpers when we put his Equafleeces on for his walks. He is having a castration op on 25th and the Orthopaedic Vet is going to x Ray his hips at the sane time. Whatever is wrong we will do our best by him l He is only a year old bless him. He bunny hops really fast and nothing stops him so I sincerely hope it isnโ€™t hip dysplasia ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป xxx

Spotty-ewe profile image
Spotty-eweโ€ข in reply toCecilyParsley

Thereโ€™s absolutely nothing to feel guilty about with your two. They have far more stimulation, exercise and most of all love than many poor doggies do. That sounds worrying about Skye though - so sorry to hear that. I hope it is better news than you fear on 25th. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป Iโ€™m off to Ophthalmology for Hydroxy toxicity tests again as they lost the results from the tests last June!!๐Ÿ™„ Enjoy your day Cecily and give Sky and Finlay cuddles from me. ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ˜˜Xxx

CecilyParsley profile image
CecilyParsleyโ€ข in reply toSpotty-ewe

Good luck with your test. Thank you for your kind words but I do feel guilty and that I am missing out. Depending on how it goes with the leg pain I really might have to consider a scooter or electric wheelchair in which case I can actually go with them again. In the meantime I look at the fabulous photos and videos the wonderful dog walker sends me xxx

Spotty-ewe profile image
Spotty-eweโ€ข in reply toCecilyParsley

Thanks Cecily, it went well although the Dr said he was disappointed they dilated my pupils before the โ€™field testโ€™ was done so Iโ€™ve to go back in 2 weeks for it alone. Wouldnโ€™t mind but we live 12 miles away so 24 mile round trip!

A scooter or electric wheelchair sounds a great idea. Theyโ€™ll enjoy having you with them as much as youโ€™ll enjoy it too. Youโ€™ll have to post a photo of you out with the boys!! Take care and I hope the leg pain subsides very soon. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป xxx
