Before I started hydroxy (plaquenil) over 2 years ago, my hands, to me, strongly smelled of burning especially after naps and on getting up in the morning, and yes they tended to be bright deep pink and slick as if with sweat. I suspect my feet would've smelt the same, cause they have my hands symptoms too, but I couldn't get down there to smell them. Almost immediately I started hydroxy, this smell disappeared: amazing! Although my hands & feet still turn deep pink and burning daily. I'm told I have imultaneous erythromelalgia & raynauds with possible vasculitis emerging
My nails don't do the splitting broken thing badly, but they have done some strange rippling, and I do have one red nailbed colouration
I mention the smell, along ith my other hand/feet symptoms but no dr ever moments on the smell-thing
I have been on steroids, Hydroxy etc for a few years, I had blood test last year which I am seriously short of Folic Acid, vitamin B12, Calcium, and Iron. I think with Lupus, we naturally lose some ability of absorb all kind of minerals, with those tablets make it worse. I don’t know your sweaty hand and smells, but split nails are definitely short of Calcium. Maybe good idea to get your blood test with GP, and check your minerals levels. Hope this helps you. X
This is so interesting I am on methotrexate and although I have never had strong nails they are split and flaking my hands are so dry no hand cream seems to help. I have been on methotrexate for 5 months. Talked to specialist nurse and she thinks it indicates zinc deficiency.
My hands are so dry and red at the moment, particularly around the knuckles and on the inside close to the bottom of my fingers. My doctor gave me Cetraban emollient cream which does really help. This started this time last year on and off.
I also get dry flaky nails on the first 2 fingers of each hand, despite using jojoba and vitamin E oil as suggested by my daughter-in-law who is a beautician. This also comes and goes and has done for years.
I am on Hydroxychloroquine, but had this before starting the hydroxy and being diagnosed with Lupus.
Thank you every one. Got so bad even the dog wont let me stroke him. I do get white patches on feet and hand nails but even the Rheumatologist couldn't tell me what that was.Sometimes you just feel you need answers but feel like you are hitting your head against a brick wall. My big toe is so painful too at the joint. It so helps to discuss with a brilliant forum. thank you x
my nails have been appaling for years now i am on hydroxy they are growing really well...funny that
Hi there. Don't have the hand problem but certainly my nails have got really bad over the past few years whether on MTX, leflunomide or sulfasalazine. Haven't got round to plaquenil yet!
