Sores and mouth ulcers

Hi all. I'm new here and this is my first post. Anyways I was diagnosed with lupus a few years ago and have tried various meds. I'm now on celecept hyroxchloaquin and etroxib for the pain in my joints and to Try and help with the mouth ulcers which are the main symptom I deal with. The only thing that seems to work is prednisone which I have has maybe 4 courses over the last 3 months. As soon as I finish the steroids my mouth flares back up again and its not just the odd one u can get up to 10/15 ulcers at a time. And now u have started to find other sores and patches of inflamed skin on my scalp and the top of by bottom. These are really small at the min but it's worrying as I've only ever really sufferdd from mouth ulcers during a flare alongside the norm of tiredness and pain. Can anyone give me any advice as I don't really wN to to go on another course of steroids. Thanks xx

Welcome to the site! Sorry to hear you are having such trouble with sores. If I was you I'd call your consultant so they can check out the new areas and hopefully they can help you. I get mouth ulcers and sores up my nose. I was given prednisolone to use as a mouth wash (you just put the tablet in a little water and it dissolves) and it worked brilliantly without all the pred being in my system. The nose sores I just put up with until they pass as noone seems to be able to help with them. I wish you well and I hope you can get the help you need.

Thank you for the reply. I have been trying to get hold of my consultant today but he's like a unicorn you only see him whnlen he wants 😂😂. I'll see my go about the prednisone mouth wash and see if I can do it with the steroids I have in already. Xx

Thankfully I don't suffer with mouth ulcers too often, but I do have episodes when I have a lot of sores in my nose - my consultant suggested I apply Vaseline using a cotton bud - and it works for me! Anything's worth a try right.

I use Herpecin L cream on my nose or a l-lysine supplement when my ulcers in my mouth and/or nose flare up.

I have not seen any research on why we get nose sores or pimples for some. I have that and ulcers inside my nose at times. I can’t use prednisone.

Warm salt rinses help. An occasional peroxide rinse is very helpful for me.
