Digestive Enzymes

Hi All

Apologies as I know this isn't related to healthy eating.

I have been having a lot of problems with my skin and by looking online I would say that I have too much Histamine as I have bumps on my arms, legs, neck and back that itch a lot. I'm on anti-histamines that I got from my doctors and am relying on them as I'm even itching taking them. The doctor did give me some Steroid Cream and a Aqueous Menthol Cream for the itching.

I have carried out some more research on line and it's pointing towards diet, which I had guessed anyway but also about Digestive Enzymes helping but they ideally would need to contain:

Alpha-galactosidase, Amylase, Cellulase, Glucoamylase, Invertase, Lactase, Lipase, Malt diastase, Protease, Peptidase and one of more of the following: Xylanase, Pectinase, Hemicellulase, Phytase, Beta-glucanase.

It's a minefield out there wondering which ones to purchase, have any of used them? Also, I have had a look at reviews but of course you can't always trust those.

I appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Hi Alicia,

Just wanted to say that I hope you find some - I don't have specific experience with them, so can't offer anything helpful to say, except for good luck with finding something that will alleviate your itching.

Hope you have a lovely day.

Zest :-)

Hi Zest

Thank you very much for your reply and for your good luck wishes - appreciated.

Alicia :)

Hello Alicia and no apologies are needed as what we eat affects our bodies.

This is very interesting to me with your reaction to gluten I wonder of your GP has ever tested you for DH. Because if you have DH your body releases histamine to attack the perceived source and causes a rash and gut problems. I'm sorry if I'm telling you what you already know but here's a link about DH:

I hope this helps and I hope that your rash goes really soon as itchy skin is not nice at all.

Good luck Alicia and please do tell us how yo get on.

Jerry. 😊

Hi Jerry

Thank you very much for your response and even though I have been on the PC all morning, catching up with emails/recipes etc as well as carrying out a fair bit of research I haven't come across DH so thank you for that.

Thank you for the link which is very much appreciated.

I will now have a look and will speak to the doctor. It's funny as I can eat sourdough bread as of course it's fermented but nothing else with gluten.

I will certainly let you know how I get on.

Alicia :)

Thank you for your reply.

I've seen the doctor and he ordered the blood tests and the results were low iron but nothing else.

I think you're right with food as I'm thinking that's what it is. Difficult to pinpoint though as I don't seem to be any different in whatever I eat.🤔

Funny you should say that, I've just been reading about Histamine online and a recommendation to see a doctor to refer to a Dietician, I think this is what I may need.
