Name as a Trigger

Does anyone else have a name or something similar as one of their triggers, and if so, how do you cope? I’ve worked through a lot of my trauma, especially with emdr, but there are certain things related to my trauma that just throw me into a panic attack even years later. Unfortunately, one of those things is a name, and that name happens to be very popular where i live. Every time i hear it, i flinch and sometimes will go into a panic state. It almost feels like someone has pinched me. I get tingles and goosebumps all over and usually have to excuse myself to calm down.

Does anyone know of any methods or resources that helped you to desensitize yourself to certain triggers, or ways to cope when those triggers occur?

Hi RenYellow,

I am very sorry to hear that the name that is triggering, is a common name.

I have certain names as a trigger but these are not very common thankfully.

Have you tried looking at trauma therapy for those events?

Not what you're looking for?
