Wonder How You Heal From PTSD?
How Do You Heal?: Wonder How You Heal From PTSD? - Heal My PTSD
How Do You Heal?
It depends on what caused it . There are many causes, warfare, accident, kidnap, anything that can cause a great emotional or physical shock.
One thing which is good is to be able to get away from the cause, such as leaving a violent partner, but some you cannot easily get away from, such as a traumatic injury.
Therapy helps and supports you until you and your mind feel ready to take personal charge of your care and recovery.
Ultimately, it relies on you.

Hi. Can't write much right now, but for me it is the incredible power of EMDR that has changed my life. Will write more when I can.

Hi nkotbjoeymc,
You can't "forget" about the trauma but over time it may be possible to live with it, without the symptoms being so intensive.
There are various therapies, however some basic self care, self compassion and being able to enjoy the smallest things can be a foundation for possible inner work.
Another option is a course in grounding to not get dissociated from the present and back into the trauma. This does not always work and it takes a while to find what really works for each person.
Finding something that you really like and focusing on it even for one second a day is already a breakthrough.
Removing any pressure if possible might help reduce stress.
Avoiding triggers, if possible, initially, might help calm the nervous system down.
It isn't a straightforward road, it is personalised approach.
It is possible to get better but it may take different approach and time depending on the circumstances.
nkotbjoeymc, after I read this first link while searching for answers to my wife's MPN, I wanted to share it with you as part of an answer to healing PTSD. Although the remaining links are examples of thiamine deficiency in the gut it demonstrates it's consequences on the vagus nerve. There are forms of thiamine that are more efficient passing through the blood/brain barrier. Become familiar with their pros and cons. Unfortunately stress causes loss of the magnesium required to change thiamine into it's bioactive form. The krispin link will list other causes of magnesium loss. Please research the magnesium relationship with thiamine and other vitamins and functions in the body and brain. Always consult with your health care professional before using any supplement.

I have found trauma therapy very useful for me in my case it’s EMDR therapy I’m doing. Do we ever heal? I think we do but like a cracked vase that has been mended that fracture is still there. We can still be triggered by reminders of trauma but with trauma therapy hopefully we can identify these triggers early and move into things like grounding ourselves.
Sorry to hear you are struggling with triggers. Over time I've been building a toolkit/box with all sorts of things to remind me about my self-care as I often forget what I need to do to help myself when I'm in fight/flight.. I've written a letter to myself, full of positivity, reminding me of my good qualities & things I like to do etc. Theres coloured pencils and a sketchbook, an emergency bath bomb I bought for myself, a little book of quotes, those kind of things. It's a Rainy Day box I guess. And I add to it over time.I see my cptsd as a journey. I don't know what normal is because I don't think Ive ever felt it! So for me, my journey has no final destination. Maybe I'll feel different in the future maybe I won't.
Be kind to yourself and may better days come your way 😊
