What 60mg slow release were you on besids the Oramorph?

Oh dear - that is a shame!

Morphine is a respiratory depressant, and if you have a chest infection, you need to reduce the dose, or it will make your breathing very shallow. You might not get enough oxygen if this happens, and of course that's very dangerous!

I hope they've given you the necessary info. after your stay in hospital, and best wishes for your continued recovery.

hello i am also on ketroprofen, baclofen, dantraline pregablin buscapan, amatriptyline, ranitidine, plus a new slow relice morphene when i was in hospital thay manage to strip my body of the mst so i wouldnt have to many withdraw symptons but when i went back to my gp he has put me on a cheaper medication and wanted me to go streaght back to 60mg twice a day but i have told home i only want 10mg i had my tablets for a week before i took any as i am terrified if i get ill again i might not recover again so i have been in a lot of pain sorry if i have ran on a bit

Wow that's a lot of medication ...you sounded a bit worried about being put on cheaper medication... My dosulepin I take which suits me perfectly I was told 15 years ago it was old and cheap so that was the last resort ... They tried me on 3 other new wonder antidepressants first and they made me so ill I refused antidepressants until 2 years ago when they gave me the now ancient and cheap dosulepin and it suits me perfectly...

Please go back and see your GP if you are worries about any medication and dose..

You are taking an awful lot of medication!

It might be an idea to go and ask for a medicine review with a pharmacist.

Boots chemist will do this for you free of charge, and will speak to your GP if they think your medication is not suitable.

They will also tell you how much is safe and what precautions you should take if you become unwell.

We don't use our pharmacist's skills enough - they know more about drugs than most doctors, and can be very helpful indeed to patients who have to take a complex prescription.

If you decide to do this, I would be very interested to hear what your pharmacist says!

i am at moment taking MST-continnus 10mg (but my new gp has changed to a cheaper alternative zomorph), oramorph 10mg(5ml) as a top up when needed i only take this when i am so uncomfortable with pain and then give in an take, pregablin 150mg, paracetomol, mebrieve when necassary for my ibs, metformin and gliclazide for diabetes, atrovastatin 10mg for cholestral (was originally on simvastatin but was change to the cheaper alternative), and pant0prazole for protection of my tummy as meds sometimes aggrovate my tummy(,but again was taking eosamaprozal but change to the cheaper one), asprin, i worry about taking the morphine and sometimes dont take for couple of days which is silly i know but addiction is in my family my mother to alcohol and my brother to drugs who is now clean and good thank good unfortunately my mothers addiction killed her so you can see why i worry about being addicted to my meds i am terrified of, but i have never been made aware of this information i know i am only on a low dose it was upped tp 20mg aday of mst but i just couldn't function and it made me feel so odd dizzy and palpatations i went back down to 10mg myself and just take 20mg on the days my pain is at its worse or unmanagable which is hard to judge as i as i guess you all must have to is pain all the time that is unbearable but put up with before we give in and take our extra painkillers i know i do i put up and put up until some one says take a painkiller why are you putting up with the pain, thanks for this info i will now lock it in my foggy brain lol xx

Hi, yes I am on MST Continus - I take 40mg morning and night. I do have some Oramorph to hand for emergency use, if the breakthrough pain gets too much, but I try hard not to use it unless really as a last resort. I get muscle spasm in my back and my GP has told me to use the Oramorph to get to a level where it helps the pain then ups the dose of MST to that level, which I do, but then drop it back as quickly as possible to my "maintenance level". I also have diazepam for use when in spasm. Amitriptyline is also in my tablet box for pain and sleep, as is Cipralex for depression. I too have worried about "being addicted" but as my GP says, what would you rather be........I have tried and not got on with gabapentin and pregabalin . Each of us are different and what works for one doesn't necessarily for someone else, but I very much want to wean myself off the MST and if possible control pain with something else, but will be led by what my GP says as he is very understanding of fibro, also trying to get on to another pain clinic course.

Hey ho,wish I didn't rattle so much

My dad takes 120mg of MST Continus morning and night and about 6 x 20mg sevredol throughout the day for breakthrough plus paracetemol. After visiting pain clinic he has been changed to Longtec 45mg morning and night with no breakthrough. He has been on this new medication 1 day and it is not controlling his pain and he is also experiencing horrendous withdrawal symptoms from the MST and Sevredol after 24 hours.

I'm taking MST which has just been upped to 60mg twice a day. I've looked through the replies and noticed that many of you are taking things such as Gabapentine and pregabalin, I used to take these but they were prior to the MST the early medications working upto being on the MST not something I've ever taken together.

In all I take...

MST 60mg twice a day.

Quinine sulfate 200mg once a day.

Ibuprofen 400mg upto three times a day.

Mebeberine 135mg three times a day.

Omeprazole 20mg once a day.

Laratadine 10mg once a day.

Fluoxetine 40mg once a day.

Zopiclone 3.75mg once a day.

Oramorph 10mg/5ml as needed.

Gavascon advanced 10mls when needed.

Algesal diethylamine salicylate 10% (local analgesic cream) when needed.
