The Rhuemetologist has requested more blood tests to check Vitamin D levels.
He said that if deficient it makes pains much worse.

My Vitamin D levels were found to be very low. I have been taking 2000iu per day and my levels are now above average. However I have not noticed any difference with pain. I suffer with fibromyalgia and my pain is still the same. Doctors will tell you any old story to get you out of the surgery. I lost faith in them years ago. I still believe that fibromyalgia is nothing more than a thyroid issue but my doctor is too ignorant and stupid to test any further. Very interesting article re thyroid issues about idiot doctors not diagnosing people correctly dailymail.co.uk/health/arti... Good luck with your vitamin D, hope it helps you.
My vit D has never been low and my thyroid is fine and has been for the 26 years I have had fibro, so I know it is not caused by that. No idea why I have it, or anyone else for that matter, unlucky maybe xxxxx
I was tested for this because as a former agoraphobic I didn't get any sunlight. The consultant was very definate that vit D deficiency can make pain worse. Who knows? x
if your vit d is low means you won't absorb calcium properly which can lead to increased pain and also lead to pernicious anaemia. (vit b12) all the females in my family suffer from this and need shot every 3 months
had it explained to me via the doc who gives me my shots
My grandsons doctor said it can make you feel low and lacking in energy. Obviously we all know it's needed for bones .....lack of it causes rickets. I know lack of Magnesium and calcium can cause muscle cramps so for me it's not such a stretch to think that a lack of vit D can have a similar impact.
What an interesting thread. I was diagnosed with Vit D deficiency but my thyroid, calcium and magnesium levels were fine. I am now on prescribed supplements but my pain levels have remained much the same so far. Vit D defficiency does seem to be fairly common to many with FMS. Jane x
Thanks for all your replys----will wait and see results xx

Everyone with Fibro should have their vit D levels checked as part of diagnosis and then with any flare or period of uncontrolled symptoms. This is because the symptoms are similar to those of Fibro, so Fibro can mask them or they can be mistaken for Fibro or a Fibro flare.
You can only get vit D from a few dietary sources (oily fish and eggs, for example). Not from eating lots of fruit and veg. And you can only get enough from the sun if you're outside without clothing or sunscreen protecting your skin from April-October. So sub-optimal levels of vit D are quite common now we all try to avoid sunburn and tend to be inside a lot more
