It might be lower than what the average is. I had short term tablets everyone is different. Just ask your GP why you have to take them permanently. Good luck check pinned post and

I've twice been found B12 deficient and only needed the injections for, if I remember rightly, a series of 8 injections.

I think if you've been told you will need them for life then it must be because your body has absorption problems. If that's the case then it doesn't matter what dietary method you try to keep your B12 up, you will never be able to retain your stores so you will need injections for life.

Just ask the nurse when you go for your first injection. I'm sure she'll be able to confirm.

Gentle hugs, Margaret.xxx

The nurse did say today that my body isn't absorbing the b12 but didn't say anything more than that just gave me info and out the door

I only needed a few injections. But many need to have injections for life it all depends if you have absorption problems as ukmsmi4 has said. I'm sure your nurse will know just ask at your next visit.

Hi Mrsb07

I am so truly sorry to read this and *NHS Choices says:

*This mix of vitamin B12 and intrinsic factor is then absorbed into the body in part of the gut called the distal ileum. Pernicious anaemia causes your immune system to attack the cells in your stomach that produce the intrinsic factor, which means your body is unable to absorb vitamin B12.

I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck with your injections, and please take care of yourself my friend.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Ken

I am on injections for life, because my body won't absorb B12 from my food. Are you vegetarian or vegan, as that can be a reason for low B12?

Not vegetarian or vegan

I hope you find the injections will help you. Don't expect it to work straight away though, and sometimes the symptoms get worse for a time. This is the healing process beginning to work on the nerves. Above all, treat yourself gently, and allow time to rest and recover. I used to push myself to do lots of things on a good day, and then would suffer for it afterwards!

I have just been diagnosed and don't know how long g I have had it I have had no symptoms other than dropping things

The reason I have the jabs is because b12 can not b absorbed in the stomach.so tablets wouldn't b any good. If the gp said for life then it probably like me .

It wasn't the gp or district nurse who told me that it was a person in charge of prescriptions I'm going to query it on Wednesday

did you get this sorted? if you have pernicious anemia B12 then you will have them for life. i have mine every 3 months i was low for 3 years before i changed doctors and now the injections dont make much of a difference. my daughter had to beg our doctor for b12 and was told your anemia is ok we just dont do b12 tests so she said well my mum has it and he said doesnt matter about that so she said and her mum had it so he done the test....today it came back 87 she is b12 deficiency normal is between 150 and 300 she is 22 so if anyone has kids who feel anxious and low not wanting to leave house unless they going to work. get there b12 checked.

Hi I also have B12 injections but I can only last 8 weeks now, I noticed from September they were not working as well as normal and I was extremely tired, my ins rested the same and my muscles were killing me, we have been under extreme stress since January resulting in my husband loosing his job, so the pain and tiredness really kicked in, the injections are for life but they do help
