I'm waiting for appointments to come through for an MRI and also for electro-shock testing. Has anyone had that? I'm wondering what to expect.

what for?
I have had electro shock testing for my carpal tunnel. If this is what they are checking for it is not painful just a bit uncomfortable. My friend took me and couldnt believe how quick it was and i got the results there and then. Basically they put wire 'rings' around my fingers attached to a machine then they put other wires into a bowl of water and gave me shocks on my fingers palm or my hans and wrists. There was another band around my wrist which collected the information. Basically it showed carpal tunnel syndrome in one wrist (a slowing of reaction) but the other showed actual lesions and marked slowing of reaction to stimulli.
Hope this is of some help. Tina
Thanks Tina, yes, that's a great help.
I'm just a little nervous and although my neurologist assured me it's not as scary as it sounds, it's great to hear that from someone who's had it done TO them.
To Pinkpig99 and akram, the testing is to check my hands, arms, legs and feet, to see if I can pick up sensations, as I have lost feeling in them, but only in some areas, and not symmetrical, according to the neurologist. Couldn't feel the cold things when he did the touch test, and badly burnt my hand one day as I couldn't feel that the dish was hot (straight out of the oven!) So he wants me to get this testing done to get more idea about what's going on.
ouch that sounds painful and scary i feel for u, i have a patch on one side of my bk a bit like that i cant feel it at all but if u put pressure on a point it huets like crazy on the opp side?? wierd, i hope u get some answers, hugs and be mindful keep urself safe xxx
Tink
oh yes, Tink, I have this related issue where if i lightly touch my fingers up my arm or down my leg I get strong shooting pins and needle sensations shooting right up to my fingers (or toes). Which also means if I carry a bag or something over my arm, I have constant shooting pins and needles up my arm. Most disconcerting I have to say!
And thanks, I'm much more aware now, that just because I can't feel it's hot, doesn't mean I don't need oven gloves. It was actually about 3 months ago, and my thumbprint has just about grown back now, but I still have no sensation at all in my thumb.
Hello
I had the tests for carpel tunnel and have since had both wrists operated on. It is very quick and each shock is over in a millisecond and made me jump but not painful.

Thanks Pinkpig, I'm not sure what I have is carpal tunnel - I had that when I was pregnant and needed the splints (which I used to take off and throw across the room in my sleep).
What I have now is quite different, I guess I'll have to wait and see what the specialists say after all the testing, to find out what it actually is.
I'm really glad the testing is not painful though, thanks for that!
I don't suppose you can remember how long it took between getting told you were getting the referral, and having the actual appointment?
It's been a month now since I was told I would get referred, and I've not heard even to get confirmation that I'm goint go get an appointment, yet.
*sigh* Maybe I'm just impatient, but I really just want to get on with it and get the tests done and therefore get closer to a proper diagnosis.
