Medical procedures and increased pain...

Hi

i am back again so soon...I have lots of questions!

Does anybody else have problems with pain when undergoing medical procedures? Because my dad had bowel cancer I regularly have to have endoscopies and colonoscopies. Because I find these procedures so painful the doctors tend to stop halfway through...so I never really get checked properly. Also needles...ouch...am I a woose or do needles really hurt when you have fibro? Massage...now there is something that should be relaxing and nice...well not for me...I would love a proper massage but it feels like I have gone ten rounds with Tyson during and after a massage. Anyone else get these things happening to them??

They should arrange proper sedation for colonoscopies and endoscopies. I regularly have both. You can insist on having heavy sedation, its crazy theya re not giving you adequate pain relief. They can knock you out completely if needed so there is no excuse.

Regards needles, I am regularly in hospital and have a needle in the back of my hand which is a painful process. I was taught a trick which really does work.

When the say 'just a sharp scratch' scrunch your toes up HARD AS YOU CAN. For some reason it interferes with the nerves and all you feel is pressure. A nurse told me about it and I use it every time, and I hate needles.

I go for massage at the local college. The last year students like someone 'different' to work on, so they take fibro into consideration as they are learning and the tutors watch them. They always start very gentle abnd only increase pressure if I say it is ok. Plus it costs £5 which is way cheaper than usual.

Hope this helps

Love and hugs Julie

Wow Julie, great tips!! I love the scruching up of toes...will try that one! And yes will try local college...great idea! With the procedures they have done partial sedation for me, but I still feel it badly. For some reason they don't like to knock me out fully...although i may insist on this in the future if medically ok to do so. Thanks for the advice. XX :)

Because I have been taking sedating medication for many years, the sedative they gave me when I had a gastroscopy didn't work at all!

Am definitely going to try the toe scrunching method :)

Your gp can refer you to a specialist dental unit. I have to have a full anaesthetic for them to work on my teeth which is done at the George Eliot hospital in nuneaton. Thats where my dentist hires out a theatre once a week and does the procedures there. It is all done on the NHS. YOu have to be refered by your gp with a very good reason i.e.you are very nervous which increases the chances of a fibro attack. Hope that helps
