Is it common knowledge that FMS is a neurological condition?

I spoke with a women yesterday who has FMS and she thought it was a rheumatoid condition! Worryingly her specialist had not corrected her on this.

I think many Drs still send patients (where they are bothering to refer at all) to Rheumatology , and this suggests Fibro is a Rhuemi condition

Yep, it derives from an unbalanced nervous systems..as if we were in a primordial state and we are constantly in alert. The greatest thing that my doctor told me is that people who have fibro are, in reality, very normal human beings..our bodies are setting out alarms through pain, telling us that something is wrong or threatening..our nervous system basically photocopies this feeling of pain as if it was sthg right so we need to train it back to a pain-free normality. We are not sleeping because we are litterally afraid of being attacked by wild animals!!:-)))

No, not really. Traditionally it was thought to be a form of rheumatism and it is still categorised as that with the WHO. Most neurologists do not realise that Fibro is their kind of thing.

Another interesting medical article about management of FMS about drug therapy to aim to regulate the chemical and neurotransmitter problems associated with this neuro condition.

I was told by a Physiotherapist that Fibro is a Long Term Muscular Skelital condition which affects the nervous system. Our physio have made a long term study of this condition, and are doing their best to help. Thank God for them

In my experience most doctors are ignorant about fibro. They just give out pain killers and anti depressants like sweets because they don't know what else to do. The main problem is there are no conclusive tests to prove it. You might want to check out this link. doctoroz.com/videos/fibromy... Perhaps that is the proof we're all searching for?

It's most definitely neurological. Our "fight or flight" button is permanently switched on. And as a result we suffer from a lack of proper sleep, IBS etc. We are totally exhausted, hypersensitive to light, sounds and smells and ache all over as amplified pain signals from the brain reach our muscles etc.

I'm sorry this doesn't come over as very scientific - and it certainly doesn't cover everybody's symptoms, but fibro is not just about aching muscles. It's far more complex. And there are no outward signs of this "disease" and no sign of inflammation (unless you suffer from additional conditions).
